It's not really that noobish. It will cut down on the heat the header gives off yes. The reason I coated mine was because I wanted the header to last a long time, the coating makes the resistant to rust as well.
All parts are blast stripped with aluminum oxide to create a clean anchoring profile. Header exteriors are coated twice and tube interiors recieve flow coating to assure coverage.
Basically they strip it then spray it with their coating mixture, which is a bunch of different metals I believe. Then they heat it to 650 degrees for 50 mins which allows the metals to adhere to the header.
