Just took delivery of my wife's new car tonight.

Old car: Grey 2010 Focus SE 5spd
New Car: Grey 2011 Focus SES 5spd

So why the change? I liked the old car for its cheap/reliable transportation; that's it. It was a total snooze to drive, I didn't like the way it looked, handling was lousy, headlights sucked, etc. The new car looks better, handles 100x better, and the lighting is much improved with the addition of foglights. So basically went from the typical grandma car to what looks like a guys car. The even better news is that this will keep the miles off my car because I will be able to stand to drive her car when we are together!

This all happened because I just started working for a Ford dealership as a salesman and was told to learn about the cars and drive them. I took out an SES Focus to kill some time and was so pleasantly surprised by it that I called my wife and said that I was getting her a new car. It is night and day difference; I love it.

Before anyone chimes in and says that I should have waited for a 2012, this was all a matter of money. Even though we took a hit in first year depreciation, we won't even notice it. Ford is offering $3000 in rebates plus I got a good discount as an employee, so our payment didn't change. It was the right time to buy, and on top of that, our interest rate was nearly cut in half!

If you are on the fence about waiting to get the 2012, my advice would be to wait if money isn't a concern. I would have, but they are going to be quite a bit more expensive (and I assume well worth it in terms of it being a really nice car). However, if you want a killer deal, now is the time. I think the 2011 run was only 3-4 months, and Ford is heavily discounting them. I got a $20K car for ~$15K. You usually don't get that kind of a discount unless you are looking at a $35K+ car.

sweet. the SE and SES have different suspension settings in addition to a rear sway bar so that makes sense.

Did you get the coupe or sedan? It sounds like you got an awsome deal. And I am shure the price will go up on the 2012's.

I work at Beasley Ford in York, PA. We have a silver one on our lot but my wife didn't want silver. We thought about going red so it felt more like a new/different car, but ultimately decided that grey looked best. I thought black looked really good but it's impossible to get my wife to wash her car so black would be a terrible choice.

I just purchased a 2011 Sterling Grey Metallic SES with Manual, Heated leather seats, Moon and Tune package for $16,700 and feel like I got a great deal. Sure the 2012 models look pretty nice but I needed a car now and don't think I would have been able to get a 2012 with as many features without paying a lot more. Enjoy the SES!

I was going get a 2012 Focus SEL but I figured that'll be July by the time I get it (with shipping and all) and by Dec I could have the ST version...
