Just wanted to introduce myself. I have a 2013 Ford Focus with the dreaded dual clutch transmission. I knew nothing about cars until about a year ago when I changed my wife's alternator for the first time. Now I have much more confidence and have been doing basic repairs to her Toyota Corolla and my Focus. I'm determined to not spend $3000 at the dealership when I there is much hope to get this Focus running by myself for at least enough time to ride out the spiked used car prices.

I stumbled upon this forum and am very hopeful to find support (technical AND moral!) for my issues and efforts so far. This looks like a very active forum. Thank you all in advance. I'll see you in the 3rd gen section of the forum!

Welcome ! You can do it! Have you considered swapping to a manual transmission?

Aaaaany other transmission would be incredible, it just hurts that the fix twice the amount that the car is actually worth (KBB $1800). I was actually trying to trade it in for a used 2018+ car, but prices are just too high to justify if the max fix for this Focus is 3000. The car is fine, I've taken care of it, learned all about it, it has just stopped running :(

How's the Focus now?
I wrote a lengthy description of the final resolution in another post I'll link down below. In short though... I did the bandaid fix of spinning the clutch actuators with the clutch tool and spraying copious amounts of break cleaner and WD40 until they un-wound themselves smoothly without resistance. Then I got a trial version of Premium FORScan and ran through the TCM Re-learn steps. After that my car had never run smoother! It was running like a completely normal car, shifting smooth, no codes. A month later I traded it in for a 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited..... Goodness what a luxurious upgrade! I drive 2+hours to work each day so I constantly use the lane assist and adaptive CC (the biggest criteria I had while searching).

The dealer gave me way more than I could've asked for for the Focus. The only thing that helps me sleep at night is that whomever ends up with it now will at least have two NEW actuators, freshly cleaned clutch forks, and a fresh re-programmed TCM lol. Hopefully it gives them a good amount of miles.

Thanks for checking in! I can't tell you how much I learned from the process. I'm wayyyy more confident working on cars now and will continue to do so for the rest of my life for sure.

EDIT: Forgot to add the link to my final posting. I hope it helps out any others who stumble across it in the future.
