So I take it that the Focus' Zetec engine is not an interference type engine. Meaning that if my belt snaps, my valves will be okay, right?

correct, but 180 deg. out of time and cyl# 1 valve gets slightly tapped (Not dammaged tho) ITS CLOSE !! But do yourself a Favor and don't run it untill it snaps Evan tho they arent an interfearence engine replace the parts at the reccomended intervals for trouble free opperation [;)]

Why won't the mods sticky this ?????????????????????????? [???:)]

BTW AEM makes a cam alignment tool and a TDC locator specifically for the 2.0. I don't remember the part#'s off the top of my head, but the retail for about 20-25 dollars each.

Fyi. . .

I don't Know what possessed me to look at this. But just an FYI. . The 2.0L DOHC engine IS an interference fit motor. This means that if your timing belt breaks you are going to send a valve or two through the hood.. Even the link included in this post takes you to a site with a table at the bottom. If you read the * at th the bottom it says that any engine with the Asterisk is an interference fit. And I know this cause I snapped a timing belt on an 01 Focus DOHC motor and bent a $hit load of valves... Thats why I have a different 01 4-dr....

Just a Heads up.. I would hate to see someone get their motor all jacked up cause of some misrepresented info...

The link is probably gone since it was posted over 8 years ago. You can find hundreds of bits of information on the internet. There is also a How-To in the archive on this forum.

Just thought I would further update this thread - HERE is the procedure directly from Ford, it has been revised.

^^^ thank you i read the first post a while back ago. and showed me nothing but the ford probes 2.2 single cam which is cake walk since i own one lol takes me like 10 minutes to get the timing belt off. My girl has the focus and since i swapped it from split port to zetec this is the first dohc ive touched and wasn't sure how to do a timing belt on it. now i know what id get myself into if i do end up doing it soon.
