The diffuser caused a huge headache, it got "baked" on with the first times I used the headlights and made the inside in the lights smoky, had to open them back up, clean out the residue/film from the snoke and reseal. In the end I was happy. They were new headlights and fogs I installed BTW. Just didnt like the chrome look.
I have painted the inner headlight bezel on a few cars, I preset the oven to 170 and left it in there for 10 mims and got it apart.
Just a FYI ( and I havent read the full thread so this could have been mentioned already) but when you car goes to a bodyshop to be repaired/painted, lets say there painting your doors, so your headlights are still in the car as opposed to a fender where they would remove them (at least a good shop would , ty shops would mask them), after you finish spraying your clear, you "bake it" which means they turn on a bake cycle to harden the clear, which can be anywhere from 150- 180 degrees, putting your lights in the oven is not going to damage a single thing unless your above that range and leave it in there for too long. Another good thing to do is clean your headlight covers prior to putting them in and dont touch them with your bare hands prior to putting them in, use gloves or a clean towel. If they are left in for too long and you have had your sweat dirty greasy hands on them, it can create a hot spot ( just like how you dont put your fingers on a light bulb your installing) and create cracking or crows feet in the lens.
Just figured id mention that for all the people who were worried in the first 5 pages, or worried with there HID'S as they get baked at a repair shop in the booth as well, the only thing with HID'S is tue wiring that could be damaged only by disassembling or reassembling. HID's emit far more heat than 170, so the wont get damaged by the heating process.
Good thread, still helping people years later. I opted to buy some new headlights(Ealge Eyes) on the bay since they are about $110 now, and my clear lenses on the 07 were getting spider cracks, no fixing that. Baking was out.
I want to add with the others said, that 3rd bolt in the fender is a %^&# &#*^!!!
I ended up just pulling the tire off for more room.
I was plasti spraying the chrome grill as I was swapping the headlights, ran out of daylight and sweat, only got one side done.
I also just got new fogs from Amazon, 40 bucks with new bulbs, couldn't go wrong as the chrome was all falling off mine and lens fogged to no other.
This picture just for the clarity difference. New on the right obviously.
Direct pics of headlights on were not pretty on the iphone.
And the new and old fogs.
Thanks again to the OP and others on removal process.
I cleaned out my Throttle Body on the weekend and am pretty happy with the results. Highly recommend anyone else thinking of doing this to go for it.
Here is a how-to video of the whole job – start to finish. 30-minute job max:
