Old thread is old, but I didn't see anyone mention it.

In the various interior projects I've completed in many different cars over the years, I think contact cement would be the best way to re-adhere the inserts to the door panels.

Good write up though, I've been considering redoing my inserts in the SVT since the cloth has come loose from a couple of the doors.

I have run into the same problem on my front door panels, I plan on doing something similar and have a heat gun yet I was wondering how long should it take to remove the foam inserts that are underneath the original fabric from the front door panels? Right now this is what I'm looking at:
