Hey - at least some passed on experience helped this time.
Yes it did. Thank you for that. Its funny that I debated whether to even post about it since ive been 'managing' as is for several years.

Ill get back to you once Ive got a good look at it.

OK, like everyone elses my pedal return spring is broken:

Ive spent part of the morning reading some horror stories about installing a replacement spring so I decided to try something else. As I said my pedal returns to within about 1/4 inch of full up and that is the amount Im pulling the pedal up with my foot to get the CC to engage. I figured if you cant raise the river - lower the bridge.

I installed a self adhesive 'drawer bumper' on top of the original bumper that the switch plunger presses against. It is about 1/8 thick so it takes up about half the gap I had. I just took the car out for a quick test drive and the CC works without having to put my foot under the pedal. We will see if this works out long term. I can always put another bumper over the first (or get a thicker bumper, etc). A new switch might also remedy the issue as Im not sure where the contacts should make/break in relation to plunger.

Original pedal bumper:

Self stick drawer bumpers:

Thanks again for the help.

2006 ZX4 here. Figured out that by holding the cruise off button and turning the key to on (dash lights illuminated) once, the test will then work. It ran thru all the tests with good results, but the cruise doesn't function. Time for more rooting around and lubing all the cables to the throttle body.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing. I couldn't get the test to work the other recommended way. I will try this.

'05 ZX4 ST here, diagnostic test gave me no blinks, and the spooling/thud sound like many others. When driving, CC light will turn on and stay on, but car won't hold speed, no matter what combination of buttons I try. Read through all responses, and I don't have a brake light issue, I don't have a clutch spring issue, and wires going to throttle body seem to be fine, and connected. Anyone have another possible answer?

Could any one tell me the location of the brake deactivation switch on a 2002 focus ZX5 .
Look upwards on the Brake Pedal, it is the upper Green Plunger Switch, You should remove the lower dash panel below the steering wheel first, 4x8mm Machine Screws and Left side clip. Once lowered, you can access the switch which rotates to the left about 45degrees to remove. Carefully pop the clip off the switch to slide off the wiring harness. Reverse the steps to install. You may want to disconnect the negative battery post before starting this work. This switch is normally closed or has 12VDC all the time. Check Fuse #53 (Cruise Control) Hope this info will help.

Check the cruise cable at the throttle body. Mine is broken there, as I've just found out. Time to stop at the dealer Monday and order a new one. I need a throttle cable too. It's catching internally. Found mine while installing a cold air intake today.

Well I didn't realize the upper center brake light wasn't lighting, so I'm guessing that's my issue, becuase I pulled on the cable, and it appears to be connected just fine. I just bought new bulbs for the brake light, but its still not lighting. the wiring to it appears to be fine, but I'm no electrician. Should I replace the wiring harness? I really don't know what im doing with electrical work ugh.

I got the test to work and got 3 flashes for brake deactivation switch. Does anyone know if Motorcraft SW-5576 is correct for an 04 SVTF?

I ordered from Amazon Prime to save on shipping and because they claimed to have it in stock. That was December 28th...still hasn't shipped. A little frustrating to say the least. Usually Amazon gives better service. Granted this isn't keeping me from driving the car, just disappointed with the time frame involved, plus I want to see if this fixes it.

So after the delay from Amazon on the switch I went to install it and found the original was just out of its hold down so just loose in the socket. Once repositioned it worked fine and my cruise control is functional again. And I have a new spare cruise control deactivation switch. I couldn't have done it without this thread. Thanks to the OP!!!!!

Mine works intermittently. And strangely enough seems temperature dependent. Cruise will work ALMOST all spring and summer but will not come on below say 45°ish. I was originally thinking a pedal position sensor was sticking in the cold... now not sure. Gonna give this self diagnostic a try.

Hello,

I have got a problem with my cruise control.
It work, hold the speed, accelerate, decelerate, etc..
But when the speed about 130 km/h, the gas pedal begin a periodic motion.
It is a little motion, but I feel in the car movement, a little annoying on a long road.

What is the possible problem?

Ford Focus MK1 (1.8 Zetec)

Thanks,

Can't guess on that one, how does the car respond when holding the pedal at that speed manually?

Will it hold that speed on a flat road without pedal movement? Or are adjustments needed to keep the speed even.

When I hold the pedal manually, everything OK.
But when switch on the cruise ctrl, the pedal begin the periodic motion.
I feel this motion, if touch the pedal.
Otherwise, a smaller speed (90 km/h) it work properly.

Greetings from Zagreb, neighbour :)

Focus MK1 has servo motor attached to the cable. at elast the euro version !!
You do not have throttle position sensor, you have ordinary cable from the pedal to the throttle valve and servo motor on it for cruise control. F' yeah :)

Hi guys!

On my focus 2003 SE 2.0l Zetec the CC works fine but, when I turn on the headlights (Normal beam or High beam) the CC disengage.

Is it a ground problem?
