Do spark plug wires actually wear out? Or do they just get old and fail suddenly. Or do they last virtually forever if kept in good condition. I have 60k miles and am wondering if new wires is a good maintenance investment. They have good ohms (12000 roughly, all four are about the same) and I don't see any sparks after dark.

I think they last a long time, but you are supposed to change them when you change spark plugs. Every 30,000 or so i think.

they should last a long time unless the rubber sheathing is degraded from oils or heat. also sometime they can fail if you manipulate them too much (ex. pulling the boots off the plugs too often).
I dont think you need to change them at 30000 (platinum plugs dont even need to be changed at 30000). you did the right thing by checking the resistance, but i dont know if 12000 ohm is too high or not.

Maybe its 50000. I can't remember.

I sure won't be changing my Thundervolts every time I change my plugs. Of course I change them every 6000 - 12000 miles depending. Yay Copper Core.
