okay.. so i bought two neon lights. the package said to just hook them up to a 12v battery source. so i just stripped the black wire and the white wire and then wired them to the power and ground of my amp. now my problem is.. there is no on/off switch on the lights. so when i turn the car off and pull the keys out.. the amp must still be giving them power even tho the power light on the amp is going off. so no matter what these new blue lights are always on inside the car. i just installed them tonite, and they are still on in the garage. my fear is, that tomorrow i will wake up to go to school and the battery is going to be dead. do you guys think that this will be a problem?

here is a link to the lights i got. i bought two of them.

thanks for any help.. and +Rep will be given to helpful answers! :]

I don't know.... maybe you could spice them into the the dash lights somehow.... you'd only use them when it's dark, right? oh yeah, and no offense, but those aren't neon lol

um... I know.... you could make a wiring harness and connect it to the one in the trunk..... I'm not totally sure how or where, but I saw someone do it to make some lights in the trunk. or using the same concept, rig up an extra ac outlet or cigarette lighter socket with a wiring harness...

Your amp has both switched & continuous power ,you need to hook it up to a switched 12v source. If you hook it up to your switched power on your amp, you can damage the circuit without a relay & yes you can kill your battery & or your alternator if it stays on all the time.

The power to the amp is always on.. the amp has a built in relay to shut it off via a remote trigger from the radio.. when the radio is turned on it send a signal through that wire which triggers the amp to power on...

Its also not safe to feed the cold cathodes/neons (unless there LED's) from a high amperage power line due to fluctuation's.. cold cathodes use a inverter which needs a clean flow of power.. to many fluctuation's may and eventually will burn out the inverters

if it was me I would find a empty fuse clip under the dash fuse panel use a insulated blade connector thats wired to an inline 5 amp fuse then wire it to a switch by the dash then feed the Lights that way the ground can be grounded to any metal object thats either bolted or welded to the body... ( I used to be a Audio installer and still do on special occasions.. I gave up when the customers didn't like this or that yet it was the only way to run it :p)

Neon lights WILL in fact kill the car. They draw far more power then LED and will kill it if left illuminated all night.

Your going to need to get a on off switch. Something simple a round rocker or duckbill will work fine.

You can still wire them up to the amp but a switch will be need to be wired into the setup in order to cut the power to them and save your battery.

well they are not neons.. they are just LEDs. but i really have no experience with all this electrical stuff, so what you just said feral just went completely over my head.. lol. i just want a simple switch for on and off so i dont have to unwire them from my amp each night. :/

Throw them on a switch. 2 prongs on the switch. One prong is for the positive side of the neon and ground the other wire off the neon. The other prong is for power. Hook it up to anything that has power...you can splice into something under the dash that always has power. Then you can turn the neons on and off whenever you want. Done.

reminder, these are not neons. they are simply two 12" led lights that are inside the car. they said to be wired to youre 12v battery source, but i just hooked them up to my amp. please let me know if this will work! thanks!
