Can anybody out there please give me some advice as to replacing my ST170 front bumper with a RS style front bumper. Is it possible to modify a genuine RS front bumper to fit a ST170? If it's possible
, Would it mean narrowing the bumper by taking a section out of the centre?

I have seen the RS Style bumpers advertised but don't know what to make of them as far as quality of fitment goes. Extreme Dimensions Duraflex F-Sport Front Bumper certainly looks very similar to a RS bumper but everything I have read on the forum about E.D hasn't been good. Has anyone had any experience with this particular bumper. I have spoken with them & they told me "That they haven't had any problems with this bumper"

I'm not really interested in going the whole wide body build, I just simply want an RS style front bumper that is going to fit without too many difficulties. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't comment on modifying an OEM RS bumper or the quality of the companies bumper. But Judging the pics of this car and an RS, it looks like it's using stock fenders. The pic of the RS looks like it has much wider fender flares. Not sure if you were even getting at that though, might just be referring to how it fits in genera.l

Man i wish i would invest the money in getting trying to get a complete RS kit, looks so good. I personally do like that bumper you picked out and it's alot cheaper than getting oem rs bumper/fenders.

An OEM MK1 RS front bumper is wider than the ST170 bumper. You would either need to do a lot of modification to your fenders to make it fit, or you will have to scavenge around to find a set of RS fenders. As those parts have been discontinued for quite a few years now, it's going to be difficult to find them. Personally, I would not cut an RS front bumper. As for the Dura-flex front bumper, from what I know they are using a mold from the F2 RS replica bumper. The fitment of the F2 bumper was not that great in my experience. So if this is anything like the F2 one, I would avoid it. But since it is made of fiberlgass, it would definitely be easier to work with than the cheap urethane foam that F2 used.

Extreme dimensions duraflex f-sport rs style bumper

Thank-you to everyone that has contributed to to this thread. I have read all the negative comments about the Duraflex Bumpers as I mentioned in the opening post. Most, If not all of those comments were up to 10 years old. I have spoken with Extreme Dimensions & they tell me they haven't had any complaints about the "New" Duraflex F-Sport Bumper.

How true this is, Not sure. Sometimes we can only go on what we're told.

I think I will speak to them again & ask about any feedback they've had regarding fitment. I will also take the opportunity to let them know that I am purchasing it to do a review on the bumper for the "Focus Fanatics Forum"

So, I'm prepared to be the guinea pig in this instance & once I receive the bumper I will be sure to write a detailed account as to Quality, Fitment etc.

Many Thanks.

I agree with the other posters; do not modify an RS bumper. Keep going with the approach your taking with the Duraflex bumper. Worse case would be cutting and modifying that bumper so it fits right.

Hello, so maybe this will help. I have been on ED's case to get this bumper back when the casting was for sale. At first it was only offered for the Gen 1 Focus, then not to long ago they finally made it for the 05 and up. In the beginning there were some fitting issues (understatement of the year). As of late there has been postings that the bumper is about 5 inches to wide on each side. I am here to tell you the truth.

Its to damn wide and just does not fit like any other fiberglass kit........

I have given ED the benefit of the doubt the entire time. As I have purchased my entire kit that's for sale now by ED (I swapped out the rear for the poison because the other one is more rice than japan is). The side skirts fit with some elbow grease and a little work. the rear bumper fit with again a little work and some patients. HOWEVER the front is no where near close to fitting. The plain fact of the matter is it is just to damn wide. I say about 3 inches out of the middle of the bumper and you should be close to fitting correctly.
Problem is that the mold used is just out of wack and well, who cares.. At least that's the "feeling" that we get from ED since it has yet to take the mold off-line and fix it...
My body guy has had my car for a month now. upon inspection we see that the gel coating is well not really there at all, the primer they use is substandard and there are massive amount of pits. I can over look most the pits, and the primer, but the gel coat I can not. I also cant overlook the incorrect fit issue. The shop has told me they will no longer work on ED parts if they come in... Ouch.. and he doesn't want me to post pictures really because hes ashamed on how its turned out so far... Well I have given him the go ahead and cut the bumper in half and work from the outside in. Below are photos.

Here you can see the wings and the lower air dam vertical.

Driver gap

Passenger gap

Stress Cracking

I like big butts and I can not lie....

Take note that the sides can not be pushed in any further or there will be considerable damage done. The reason they are that close is because we bolted the tops in and there is still that much flare.

So if you get this kit, which I still say any one should get.. Be ready to give it to the body shop and warn them that the bumper is vastly off and may need to be cut in half to get it close.. AND be ready to not get your vehicle back for some time.... in my case over a month of shop time. (other cars and what not, typical shop BS you deal with) My cost to put on all for body parts and the hood and mod the hood is 2,000 out the door. My body guy is going to eat those words....

Other than that it looks awesome!!!!

ED just please fix the issue of it being obviously way to wide. Thank you ....

X2 the ED bumper sucks is not worth the time. You cannot cut an RS bumper in the middle because that is not why it doesn't readily fit. The RS bumper flares out to meet the flares of the RS fenders. So you would either need RS front fenders or a body shop to cut and reshape the edges of the RS bumper to eliminate the flares.

There have been a couple people that have modified a RS bumper to fit a non widebody focus.. but yes it does take work and time..

as far as ED version..

I bought it.. headaches upon headaches for fitment. it is way off like stated above..

sadly i was already to deep in the project to give up..

kinda funny they state they havent had issues when i got emails to and from talking to them about my issues..

to make the fcrap bumper work, you need to cut the bumper in three pieces.. add flex resin to it because that duraflex is crap and i added brackets inside to make sure it doesnt flare.. all in all.. now it looks good.. but.. would i do it all over again? hell no..
