at this point ive decided to do a rwd conversion on my focus. there is room for a driveshaft in the exhaust tunnel and i could get a rear end in there but i just want to know if any1 has ever done it and if they have some input? my mind is made up im doing it no1 can change my mind im just wanting to know what the easiest cheapest way to do it is. putting in a miata motor and tranny with a longer driveshaft could be done but i dont like those engines. if there is a rwd tranny for the zetec i would love it because i have some work done to it already but i believe there was already a post on that and there are none so scratch that unless some1 knows of one. v8 conversion is out, not friendly to the daily driver. please all help is welcome and if any1 knows of a focus specialist in north carolina let me know about that also. i saw a website not long ago with focus race engines and stuff like that for a few grand and would like to find it again but never have been able to track it down.

Do a search on here-this has come up many times. This company...
www.quad4rods.com
sells a bellhousing to mate the Zetec to either a T9 or a T5 trans.

oh god thank you for that quad rods web site thank you thank you thank you. theres a rep point i wish i could give you like 10. any idea which the T5 or T9 is better? the tranny going into my car has to be a manual. i wont go back to automatic for nothing unless its a powerglide in a 2500hp dragster. and what i mean by better is ease to install. the size(smaller is better in some cases, less cutting) how much power it can hold, how much it weighs etc.

The rear of the exhaust tunnel is too low to allow the Drive shaft to move up when the rear suspension moves up.
Part of the problem is that the emergency brake cable is directly under there.
You will need to cut out a section and lift up the level of the tunnel.
I have a 8.8 rear (v.8 conversion), I don't think any other rear will make it any different.

Just had a thought, my car is a wagon I don't know if the it's just the Wagon tunnel that is low at the rear to allow the seat to fold down

Don't worry about the shape of my altered tunnel, it's to allow the fuel pipes to run inside and then exit to the rear.

You can pick up the ford 8" rear end at a salvage yard for cheap, trust me, we have three ready to go for conversion on my car.

eh i think ill go with a t5. mustang trannys and rears are readily available at junk yards around here. would i have to modify the driveshaft and axles? chop down or lengthen i mean. i would love it if i could get a list of all the components i would need for the conversion. i actually think my tranny is starting to go right now so if i could get it done in say less than 3 months it would probably be for the best. Im going with the t5 tranny and 8.8 rear out of a mustang. and the bell housing from quad rods to mate the t5 to the zetec. what else would i have to snatch up?

you will have to make custom mounts to turn the zetec sideways, and figure out if the speed sensor will work with the stock computer/wiring. If not, a custom dash panel is in your future.
