My 2002 SVT fastback has issues shifting into reverse , It steams when running so I bought head gasket set including new bolts and new shifter cables and am awaiting install. I’m totally new to this car which it has been sitting for 7 years but is in pristine condition body wise & interior is like brand new.
Please someone help!!!

Take the cap off the overflow tank and start it. If it overflows you have a head gasket leak. The thermostat housing is a known issue as well as the plastic bypass tube that sits on top of the radiator and has 3 small hoses. I always do a compression check to verify as well.

i will ask my friend to do the test. Which are we to compression check? The coolant system or the cylinders?
