On 10-28-14 my trusty MZ3 2.3l 5MT Touring through a Stability Control idiot light and Check Engine light, then a ugly metallic rattle came fourth from the engine bay. At 124k miles in one swoop it demanded attention. Sounds like something failed in the head. I got it home and parked it.

Knew the local Ford dealer had two Ruby Red Focus's on the lot. ( Small Town ) Both have the near worthless 6AT. From the time I called and made a deal on the cheaper of the two and got a good close out price over the phone. Bought and in my driveway about 1.5 hours went by. I have bought three new cars from them in the past. A 91 Tracer, 92 Festiva, 99 Escort. So I'm not new to little Fords. All were good cars. Heck my MZ3 has Ford in it's DNA. As a matter of fact the head is a Ford design, whoops. :)

The MZ3 just turned 124k miles. I have done nothing to it except change the oil, filters and tires. It still has the oem brake pads, belts, hose's and rear struts/shocks/dampeners. It has been a fantastic car! Goes like stink, stops on a dime and turns like a quality entrance level sports sedan. OOO I did change out the front struts at 90k miles. I've had it air borne one too many times on the back roads of Oklahoma and Arkansas. Thinks it has a LSD up front. It fears no Si. So I will be fixing it.

The Focus drives very nice over all,, well minus the 6AT. I had a wild hope Ford had figured out how to make the dual clutch manual-matic work right. If it has the new seals in it and the newest firmware it should be OK and completely boring. If it's not better by it's first oil change I will be on my dealer like a wildcat. The tranny has been good for mpg. On the first tank I'm at 40 mpg. But I do drive for mpg in my daily grind commuting 80 to 100 miles per day. I've seen 25 mile segments of 48 mpg. Thats with the speeds down in the right lane.

It is very smooth, no rattles, squeaks or other basic ugly's. It thinks it's a Crown Vic. Just floats along. Kind of like my Ranger that swears up and down it's a F-150. It is comphy. The climate control system is a bit LOUD! The A/C is better than my MZ3. But not as good as our 09 Civic Hybrid. Nor any other Honda we have owned in the past. Not even as good as the old Rangers A/C. I am very impressed with how quick the car warms up. And how fast it goes closed loop concerning the o2 sensor/emission system. And that helps cold start mpg. The steering is over weighted IMHO. The controls seem to work very well. I hate to say it. But they feel almost as good has a Honda's inputs devices. Buttons, knobs, stalks have a good quality feel to them. So far it has been very pleasant in a lot of ways. If not on par with semi impressive!

If this transmission becomes a real issue at all I will trade it in on a Accord Sport 6MT. The Focus was bought way right. So I won't get hurt trading it in the next year or so. I would have bought one from my Honda dealer this week. But all they had was worthless CVT tranny cars. No CVT's for me. Our Civic Hybrid would be perfect as a mpg getting mofo if it didn't have that worthless CVT in it.

I present to you RubyII

RubyI was a 05 Accord EX I should have never traded off. The tires wore out at 89k miles so I traded her. Big Mistake. Honda does not make REAL Accords anymore. :(

The only mod this car will get until it proves it's self is a old Bass Link semi Sub installed in the trunk. If it proves to be a car worth keeping I will have it tinted with 3M Black CS tint and a tire upgrade when the Conti's wear out. Which should be pretty fast. :(

MZ3 when it was new. And it still shines and looks the same.

06 Civic EX 5MT w/Navi. First one sold at my dealer. It was the brochure car.

09 HCHII

05 Accord

Congrats on your new Focus & welcome to the Forums!

I would'nt go as far to say that the DCT6 trans is "worthless", I own 2- 2014 Focus hatchbacks, one for myself & the other (Ruby red!) for my wife. I really like the car a lot. I have so far near 700 miles on mine and no issues with the trans, her's has 6700 miles and other than a occasional stutter when taking off from a stop or going slow thru parking lots, there have been no other issues... Yeah sure the trans, if it does stutter on you, can be a bit irratating, but it is a dual clutch automated manual, many other car makers that use DCT transmissions also have a occasional "stutter" and its considered "normal". I blame Ford, their marketing & the dealerships for not making this more clear to the customer before they buy....

I didn't buy the other Ruby Red Focus my dealer had on the lot because it had the sport mode tranny 6AT in it. Otherwise it would have been a worthy contender to my 07 MZ3. Sport package and all that jazz. If it had the MT in it. It would have been the same price as my micro boat. Basically it was my MZ3 with a idiot box in it. Only in America can a fine car be ruined and you pay extra for it concerning a AT :) I did make sure my dealer erased the $1095 price adder for the AT in mine. One should never pay more for buying a AT anything. And they knew I could buy what I wanted. Small town yeah know. It's a crying shame the other Ruby sedan had the auto box in it. If it had been a MT car I would have traded my MZ3. As it is now I can get mpg with the Focus. And go crazy on two lanes or track days or auto cross with the MZ3 when I fix it.

Good luck with your 5 doors!
