My headlights go dim on the highway for a few seconds when I am at 50% throttle or more. I don't beat the car up very much, but notice this issue after hitting the throttle to pass someone.

I am assuming that it might be an alternator going bad, but I don't want to just guess and change it out.

This could be a real pain in the neck to identify since it only happens at speed.

Any thoughts?

My guess is alternator or at least something in the charge system. However, before doing anything, just make sure the posts on the battery are clean (not corroded). If they are corroded, clean them up with battery cleaner and see if that helps.

I bet your battery is getting weak or needs cleaned. The alternator will stop charging when pushing the throttle hard to free up more power for the engine.
