NVRM i think i dont want to swap heads anymore i was on Wiki and was reading about the CVH engine class ......aka the SPI motor......for all of us SPI engine owners revel in the fact that u own a 4Cyl "HEMI"......CVH stands for Compound Valve angle Hemispherical combustion chamber. In 1987 ford added EFI and the Hemi head to the 1.9L Escort GT in 1997 they bored the 1.9L out to 2.0L..........o ya im just ganna chill with my 4cyl Hemi lol

2.0's did'nt come out untill 97.

It is possible to put a Zetec head on a CVH, but very impractical. You'd have to have many hour's in at a machine shop to get the water jacket, oil holes lined up right. Plus you'd have to some how replace the 2 valve piston with the Zetec's 4 vavle relief piston, and rig up the timing belt. Why not just save your self all that trouble and time and just swap the entire long block with a Zetec?

WAT?[scratch]
yes jeff that's correct [giggle]

the IB5 won't fit the zetec and vice versa.... I believe the bell housings are different (is that what they're called? :B)

though if you have an automatic, they use the same tranny between the SPI and the Zetec, so that's why some may say that you can swap the transaxles between the two. just has to be automatic though.

as for the head, I'm pretty sure the 1.9 escort head works, since they look the same. at least that's what I've heard :B

ya but u gotta think hemi's wernt known for mad HP ratings they were known for crazy torque......and while i admit 125lb/ft aint that much think of it like this if this were a 5.7L V8 it would make over 300hp and 300lb/ft of torque which is IIRC about what the new Dodge Hemi's in the charger R/T 's make.......... with just a little massaging im sure i could get 150lb/ft of torque out of this motor which is what i want .............HP sells cars, Torque wins races.

EDIT: fyi the 5.7L Hemi in the Charger makes 340hp and 390lb/ft of torque, and the Charger weighs 4096lbs and im sure that is the dry weight.

I have a question about headers.... i know it doesnt have anything to do about the head swap, but im ganna hijack my own thread.....i have read some about using a zetec header on an spi motor.... i have also read that u need to mod the header to make the bolt holes line up and that that exhaust ports on the spi head are different than the ports on the zetec but that the header primary's are large enough that that isnt a problem...............so my question is this. Is is feasible to just cut the flange off of the zetec header an have a machine shop make a new flange altogether ??? or would that be really expensive??? i dont have any experiance with machine shops so i dont know what to expect on pricing????
