Head rest too large for GF NEW PICS!!!

Hello focus forum mates,
My GF just bought a 2001 focus SE in fantastic condition, and she absolutley loves the car. The only thing she hates is the headrest. She finds it comfy, but when she tries to look behind her to for example change lanes, her view is obstructed by the large headrest.
I cranked the seat all the way up and told her to look around it but i got this evil stare thing [mad] . She is 5'3" and in her old POS altima she could see over the headrest.

Does anybody know any other head rests that will fit into the focus that are smaller? Like escort ones or anything? Any good suggestions? Give her some icecream and tell her to live with it?

Do you have problems with it too? I don't want her to get whiplash if she is in an accident.

ya just remove it along the passanger one all they are is a distraction when you are driving. i took all of mine off the only problem i have now is the b pillar gets in my way when im trying too see.

i know for sure that EAP svt headrests are thinner, but couldn't tell you if they fit

Yeah do not remove the headrests. Thats not very smart.

Not sure how good you are at interior and fabric working but maybe you cold take them apart and make them not as wide? Im sure there is some company that can do it that is located around you. Just an idea though.

seriously it doesn't matter if you have head rests if you get into an accident because they are just that "a head REST" that is all they are meant for if you got into a accident they are not going to be a life or death situation. if they are in you way just simply remove them

I would suggest to pulled the up as high as you can, then she would be able to see through the hole between the seat and the head rest. It has worked for me in other cars. Hey Wade, if b pillars are a pain in the a$$ too, why don't you remove them? you can always chop them to make them thiner.

at least with them there, there's a stopping point for your head if you're in an accident. you hit something. the car obviously comes to a sudden hard stop, one way or another. your body slings forward, your head tries to go even further. what goes up must come down...and in this case what flies forward is going to fly right back. if that headrest isn't there, i'd say at the very least, just from common sense and simple math, you're doubling your chance of whiplash or a broken neck. your body hits the seat back, well your head very well may keep on going back without that headrest there. snap goes the neck.

in any case, something from another ford could possibly fit, but wouldn't no for certain without finding some cheap somewhere and trying. or doing something custom.

Hmmm... I don't have a problem with this, how does she get her head to rotate 180 degrees like that? My wife is 5'3 also, she uses a mirror for the driver's side with a quick look in the blind spot. You don't have to turn around 180 to see what's in the blind spot. I could see the passenger headrest being in the way for checking that side, but all you'd have to do is raise the seat up to fix it.

What?! Its called a head rest, but should be called a "brace for your head so your neck won't f'n snap when you get into an accident" rest.

If you get into an accident they aren't going to be a life or death situation?! Tell that to our warranty lady whose daughter was rear ended and didn't have the "head rest" adjusted right....it broke her neck and she was killed.

The head rest can't be that big. Every new car takes some getting used to. When I look over my shoulder I used to see a huge B-pillar but I dont even notice this anymore bc I got used to adjusting my position so that I could see out.

Make sure she is sitting properly in the seat to begin with. No ghetto ride slouching. Seat back in an upright (but still comfortable) and your wrists should meet the steering wheel with your arms extended straight ahead. This gives you a comfortable bend at the elbows when gripping the steering wheel.

As for anyone out there thinking a head-rest is just a head-rest you are sorely mistaken. Federal law mandates them in every vehicle as they are an extremely important safety feature helping reduce the effects of whiplash.

Also, good luck paying your debt after you get in an accident and your passenger sues you for whiplash related injuries as a result of being a moron and removing a safety feature from your vehicle.

I am in the process of reupholstering my seats. I'll see how much it would cost to re-foam and make them smaller. I'll keep this post in mind and send you a PM if the price is cheap enough.

^^I use my mirrors all the time, but I still turn my head to look as well.
