I was wondering if anyone here has experience having this done? My SE has the black plastic textured skirts and front/rear pieces but I would much rather have them painted to match the car. I took the car to 2 body shops for a quote and both said that painting the textured plastic would not work and eventually peel off since it wouldn't adhere properly. I suppose I'm stuck buying aftermarket parts and having those painted but it would be more than I'd like to spend.

Any ideas? Something tougher/stronger than paint? I think Plastidip peels off easy right?

Some have done it. The results have been mixed from what i have seen.

Maybe @Klotche will jump in here and give you his thoughts..it recently sprayed his skirts and valance on his sedan.

It can be done, but takes more time than usual panels. The texture has to be sanded out first but after that it's prep and paint as usual. I had my rear valance done at the start of last year and it's still holding up perfectly, even after one of our long, harsh winters.

However, for extra protection I did have the areas immediately behind the rear tires covered in 3M to protect the paint from anything being kicked up.

I did mine over a year ago and I haven't seen any signs of paint deterioration. I used some Rustoleum satin spray paint and prepped by cleaning the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. It was a total newb job but it's still holding up.

Hmm, well I can definitely put the muscle into into sanding and prepping if it will stay and not look bad. I might get brave one weekend and give this a shot. Thanks guys.

Thanks! I just headed over there. Looks like he had issues with the paint on the skirts chipping off and he removed it. I'm thinking I might just get the unpainted ST style skirts off ebay for $130 and go that route.

I plasti dipped mine. While it does look awesome matched it started to peal on the side skirts after a couple months. It takes forever too! If you're gonna do it I would just buy a kit and do it right the first time. Not something you want to gamble with and have to do twice (like me lol).

Just as a warning, avoid anything that says style in the name. Style = replica.

As long as your OEM pieces are smoothed and prepped you'll have no issues.
