I took my car to get the 14M02 service done, but they refused unless I did 14M01 for $2500 out of pocket since that one expired on my car. They claimed the 14M02 would cripple the car if I didn't do the other one first. I called Ford who said they've never heard of that before and to try a different shop. This place claimed my transmission is bad and it would put the car in limp mode. 90,000 miles and it drives fine except for the symptoms in 14M02.

What year is your car & is it CPO?

Basic power train warranties with Ford are 5yrs or 60k miles, whichever comes first, from the original date that the vehicle was put into service.

If it’s CPO then you’d have a ‘limited’ 7yr or 100k warranty on certain components.

When replacing the TCM under FSA 14M02, it is required to perform whats called an "adaptive learn." The clutch and apply levers must be in good working order prior to successfully completing the adaptive learn. If your clutch apply levers are binding/sticking, or if theres a major clutch issue or bearing issue, that will cause the adaptive learn to fail and will cripple the car. It possibly may not even move in that case. However, if your transmission is shifting through all the gears OK, and theres no shudder on acceleration, they have no reason to force you to buy a clutch. If you suspect that is the case, go to another dealer for diagnostics instead.

Hope this helps!
