To check the passenger side mount- let the engine idle and listen carefully. Then grab the motor at the passenger side top and pull or push on the motor- front, back, and down. If you hear any change in the sound (and listen carefully, it might be subtle), probably that mount is bad.

If it checks out bad, just try a passenger mount first. It's a super-easy replacement. You'll need a 15 and an 18mm socket, and a jack to support the engine on that side. I think the jack that comes with the car will work.

yeaaaa, done and done. it was actually more the driver side (tranny mount) which was almost flush and full of rubber shavings. Also the passenger mount was quite bad. I still have some vibration and i HIGHLY suspect the torque mount under the engine.
Maybe someone can help me with some info on where is the safest point to support the transmission and or engine when replacing the third engine mount.

here is the insane 2AM procedure:

Dudes, HELP!
My ZTW makes a horrible grinding noise only when turning right and only in the morning, it goes away completely (or so i hear) after 10-15 minutes of driving (not idling) and it seems to be noisier when accelerating in a right turn than when coasting in a right turn.
When i make left turns it's like new.
(maybe unrelated) I have replaced the tires about 6 months ago and (it seems) that they were unable to balance them (they actually showed me that it passes the roadforce balancer test so it was fine from their point of view) but when going over 95km/h my seats shake and my steering wheel moves left and right slightly but it seems more up and down also. Soon after that i remember making a quick 3 point turn and i heard a knock, not immediately but few days after i got the "right turn grind" problem.

help-p-puh
I have nearly the exact same symptoms.

I only have the noise when I'm putting torque to the wheels - accelerating.

Accelerate turned to the left - no to minimal noise.
Accelerate straight forward - noticeable noise - the more I put gas to it, the worse it is.
Accelerate turned to the right - the noise is really bad - the more I put gas to it, the worse it is.

No noise when I am NOT accelerating. When I have the cruise control on at a steady speed, there is no trace of the noise. Same when braking & coasting.

Thanks to this thread I'm going to check my motor mounts, that makes sense considering I only get the noise when I'm torquing the engine/drivetrain.
When I'm turned to the left is probably when the least amount of pressure is exerted on that passenger side mount...

Bingo!

Damn I love this community!

The passenger side motor mount was blown up, for real.

I replaced it and now the ZTS is silky smooth again!

Fun and games again...
after replacing the third engine mount in March (aprox 7 months) it failed. It moves like.. Jagger.
On my way to Lordco to try to get it under warranty, although it was replaced 7 months ago, it was purchased 16 months ago.... so i can hear them laugh now. :)

PS: don;t be cheap like me... buy the ford original part or even better, some nice urethane mounts.

Hey, currently am having a horrible noise wondering if anyone could help. I have a 2009 ford focus se, i got hit in the winter time in the drivers front and snapped a control arm, ever since i have had this terrible vibration and horrible noise in the front end when accelerating at all. It just progressively gets worse going up in rpms and even worse up hills, i replaced everything on both sides including both axles and the carrier on the inner side of the passenger axle, i replaced both control arms and both tyrods including upper and lower, also replaced the axle seals. Cannot get to the bottom of it. I ordered the wheel bearings but i habe a huge doubt for them because its much worse when just a wheel bearing but its consistant. Also did a tranny flush the fluid was beautifuly clean looks like it just came out of the bottle. Ik that my motor mount on top is shot but all the other mounts have been replaced with fswerks mounts including tranny mounts. Im completely stumped please if someone can lead me to an answer it would be great

If pass side mount not changed yet do it. They commonly fail when the engine weight gets thrown against them in a accident and your LCA being damaged says yes to enough force to do it. Past that, the chassis itself could still have accident damage and no telling, there can be 50 ways to vibrate with that. A driver side hit can easily move the trans upper mount frame box back enough to then pinch the lower rear dogbone action to then be a solid mount that vibrates more. One way to check for that is to visually look at the spaces between battery and the vertical strut and the airbox to fusebox spacing too. Needs to be space in all those locations or the box has been bent back.

Grinding Noise?

So as I drive above roughly above 15 mph I start to hear a grinding noise. It comes front the front left side because i've had my wife drive me around and i can still hear it but its louder from the front left. When i come to a stop the noise goes away but i do hear a clicking noise in the brakes. Can someone please help? Ive talked to some mechanics and the dealer i bought the car at and they dont know what it is.
