Ola, LOL!

Well, I wanted to drop a hello. I am new to the Focus scene, really new. Typically, for several years now, I am part of a few different Probe clubs and forums, but yesterday, after looking for a new car to go to and from work, I came across two cars that interested me. A Cougar and a Focus. Needless to say, after test driving both, and checking them out, I now own a 01 Focus. It has impressed me so far. I am a speed fanatic, and I was impressed how smooth this car is. I was peaking under the hood, and the engine is labelled as a Ztech, so, I was wondering, especially from you Focus fanatics, whats the story on this thing? Why do I hear so many throw that name around, like Pepsi or Nike? LOL!

I'm sure your getting it confused with Vtec or something of that matter...

Before you get flamed...its Zetec, basically just the line of engines. Like Hemi, Powerstroke, Cummins, etc. Vtec ( most likely what you are referring to ) is a 'technology' employed in hondas engines.

Now that we have that down...

Thats what it is.. LOL.. My purest appologies! I do understand miscommunication in terminology and how it will get some pretty fired up! So, yes, again my appologies!

On a side note, I was looking at some of the pics on this site of other owners, and mine is along the same of that "ZeTech".. So whats the story on this thing? Is it a junk motor, or long lived?

very long story actually. ill give you a quick clue in, but do some searching, youll find some impressive stuff.

The motor in your car makes 133hp at crank. The motor has weak pistons and rods, and a restrictive head. Thats the focus motor I am also stuck with, as most foci owners. Now, you will here of the SVT focus, it is the same motor design, but better rods, intake, pistons, and such.
Cosworth has made many perf parts for the zetec, we just dont see them here. In europe, which is were this car comes from, the zetec is still used, it was also used in the rally focus, and I think the cossie escort. Your probe borrows its motor from mazda (as well as chasis) if im not mistaken, cosworth was the original designer for this motor.
As for longevity. I drive the piss out of my car. I run it to rev just to hear it bounce. I change oil regularly, and have all the bolt-ons. Not once has this motor even burped. I say the longevity is great. They respond well to boost or n20, but arent that great on the na side. thats all i can think of, welcome to the site.

i dont think that the zetec engine is weak compared to some of the other engines. People boost them 10-12 psi all day long with no problems.

i didnt mean the Zetec is weak, i mean the rods and pistons are. Ive heard of up to 18psi, but that is a spot on tune. Any slight error and the rods break.

You are very correct with enjoying your new one Razorrik.. I finally go tto put some fuel in this one of mine, and I dropped in premium on all my cars (crap gas doesnt pay!), and the pep this thing has was much better. I have dropped premo in I-4's before, and havent gotten a noticable difference, but with this little focus, it was noticable for once..

Joe03zx3.. Yeah, close enough! LOL! I actually live in Chey town, but work in Longmont.. 79 miles away from eachother, which is what really inspired me to get a Focus.. Not to mention, my brothers X-wife had one, and I kinda liked it after installing a CAI and some other little goodies.. By the way, its easy to get the MAF reversed by accident when doing this in the dark..LOL! But it was a pretty sweet car.

I checked out some of the rides around here, and you guys are about as much of a fanatic about these cars as I am Probes... LOL! So I understand you all very well!

So, another quick question.. Whats about the best highway fuel milage some of you have been able to pull from these engines? Does a K+N make a big difference on these as well? Ok, that was actually 2 questions!

LOL, wow.. well even 12psi is impressive, especially on a 2.0.. I have an idea that would really make them get up and go!

As for the avatar, yeah, thats my baby. Its a 93 Probe Se, 2.0 DOHC. I resurrected it from the grave many years ago, and have sunk a ton of $$ since. I am pretty sure that these Fouc's are alot like Probes, in the fact that they become a true addiction!

My buddy has a 95, 2.0 with a 5spd. It shocked me how quick it was. Faster than my car stock. What all you got done to the probe?
