hello all i want to finally upgrade my stock sound system and i'm looking to add a 12" Kicker CVX (don't know if i should do 2 or 4 ohm) and run it with an alpine PDX 1.600 amp. i have no idea what deck im getting but it will be something....obviously.........will this setup suffice my bass craving? and if i don't upgrade my 4 6x9's will i still be able to hear the high's and mid range or would i need to upgrade all the speakers

THANKS

Not a fan of Kicker, too much fart noised bass in my opinion. Personally I'd go with a Rockford Fosgate Sub then if you still want highs go with infinity or boston for your speakers. If you do upgrade your speakers you may want to get a four channel amp to complete the system [thumb]

Kicker is the best IMO. I would go 4 ohm and that sub will only be pushing about 750 watts rms so that amp would be good for that but it's a lil pricey I think. Shop around for the same wattage amp but a little bit cheaper. Any speakers are better than stock speakers so I would upgrade. They will be more clearer than the stock ones. I am running kenwood excelons in mine. If you want more clarity get an amp for your mids and highs.

Yeah I am not a huge fan of kicker either....Cool thing about the PDX amps is you can run a 4 ohm or 2 ohm sub and get the same amount of power out of it. I also would say look at an RF sub or even an Alpine Type-R 12 for that clean matching look. Stock door speakers are "ok" but I would def look at upgrading those....They are 6x8s btw and I would look at Infinity Reference door speakers.

Well I notcied that the PDX has a RMS wattage of 600, and the 12" CVX has a 750W RMS...would this be a bad combo? would the sub be under powered?

The 10" CVX has a 600W RMS so would that be a better combo?

600 watts rms for the 12" is fine. Just because it says it can take 750 watts doesn't mean you should. I have the 12" Kicker L7 750 watts rms and I'm only running 450 watts to it. It's way more than enough.

It depends on the user, I'm not a fan of underpowering a sub because your amp will be constantly working to power it at a higher level. 80% of users will take the subs and amps to the max.

Do a rockford P3 or JL w3 12" with your PDX Amp, then you'll just need a decent box and wiring of course [thumb]

If you're going with Kicker, I would go L7 sub not CVR. L7 has much better performance IMO.

W3? Those things are outdated and bottom out WAY too easy. If your going to go the JL route, don't go with anything older than a W6.

Kickers are Great for there Price. They have a wide range of Frequinces. CVX are Great subs. L5 or L7 would be a Better and Louder sub if you want alot of Heavy Bass(SPL) A 12" CVX with that amp should do just fine.
