Hi guys, I know everyone swears by the R.P. Syncromax but up here it's $21 a quart. I've been reading all over the forums and some say it's ok to use a synthetic ATF?? How can this be because this is automatic transmision fluid?? The manual calls for a Fully synthetic manual trans fluid. just waondering what the difference was?? i saw some Mobil 1 Fully synthetic ATF today will that work? it's only $8 a quart?? Please help with input

Thanks,
SVTMAZ

Get the Royal Purple!!!
Are you seriously going to put some no-name crap in your tranny to save 20 bucks?

I put R.P. in my BMW 540i. It has a 6-speed Getrag (same as the M5) and it shifts soooo much better. Actually, in the BMW Getrag, other synthetics have actually caused the shifter to stick in 6th.

Are you sure you were looking at RP? I know that BG syncroshift II is about 21$ a quart. Its good stuff, I've used it in my fofo before. But, if RP works and its cheaper go ahead with that. I went with BG because a lot of BMW friends of mine (some are mechanics) swear by it and considering the tranny is German I felt it was a safe choice.

I would like to know if any REAL studies have been done on RP products. I have heard very bad stories of oil break down over long term use from biased sources but no real studies. My local Amsoil rep told me of a airplane racer that had a very bad experience.

I got it at a car show for $7 a quart last year.....Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach

My tranny was VERY difficult to shift, then I changed the fluid and over a few hundred miles it got better and now it's extremely mooth

oh and my car has 127k on it and was around 100-110k when I did the fluid change

its in the manual, if someone here cant tell you off the top of their head.
I've run RP in multiple cars over 7 years now, and I will never use another oil/lube.
My first experience was in a blown mustang, and even with a blower installed, I STILL felt the difference.

I actually switched from royal purple to Mobil1. It's cheaper and I've been impressed with Mobil1's products in the past. I put the synchromax in last year or so. I believe the royal purple website recommends motor oil instead of the synchromax.

The reason I switched was because my axle seals were leaking. I was gonna try rp again, but after researching on their website and finding they suggested another oil, I decided to look elsewere. After putting in Mobil1, shifts fine and no leaking.

Rp

I am used to Mobil 1 and change it at 5,000 mile intervals. It went 250,000 miles in the Mustang and was still runnin 13's on the stock motor when I took it apart.

I made it to 4,200 miles on RP before it sludged up on the wife. Granted we had some drastic swings in weather and humidity while it was in the truck. I noticed it before she made it out of the driveway, but I wasn't really happy. It was making a lot of noise and I went running down the hall swinging my arms like a mad man.
