I was wondering has anyone ever swapped out the digital screen and board that records the miles and put it in the new gauge cluster? I've never looked at a gauge cluster in person out of the car but I would imagine you could swap out the guts right? Anyone ever done this?

I know on the ford ranger forums a popular swap is to the sport trac cluster. You can swap out the miles to keep it legal but of course the miles are analog.

What is it your wanting to do exactly?

Like say take an SVT cluster with different miles then yours and put your miles in the SVT cluster or something like that?

By looking at my cluster and board the display is just a display, the part that records the millage i believe is on a chip next to the display that sort of burns the milage into the chip or to its memory or something.

I think if you tried to remove the display you wouldnt really acomplish anything. There does appear to be pins or test points at certain spots that may "clear" the memory or ground it which may do something similar.

This is all just a guess though, ive never tried what your wanting to do.

I have thought about trying to pull the display up to swap out the surface mount LEDs and replace them with blue to try and change the display color. If i can find my solder wick and try this, it might shed some more light on the actual display?

Looks like just LEDs under there.

Yea basically, But coming from me. Take a non-tach cluster and put the stuff in a svt or a tach/ speedo cluster. Thanks for the pics, they pretty much summed up the question unless you are a computer genius it can't be done. I wanted to know if it was a small screen with a small board attached to it. Like the analog cluster I posted the link for. Do I make any sense or did i just confuse things more?

So instead of needing to search for a cluster with miles close to yours or just having to deal with the wrong mileage it'll be correct.

But it should be possible to do with a regular tach / speedo cluster swapped to a SVT cluster. You should just be able to swap the whole board to the new cluster.

Yeah i just did it a few weeks ago with my car.

Mine just had the speedo and i found one with a tach on e-bay, they didnt know the millage but only wanted $40. for it. I went ahead and bought it and when i got it i plugged it in and it only had 25K on it. My stock one had 53K on it.

Im just glad it wasnt at 105K or something alot higher. Ide rather it be a little lower then alot higher.

I think once I buy a tach cluster and I have them side by side I think I might do some experimenting. Or just buy a second stock to play with just in case. I'll half to do a write up if I can figure something out.
