I own a 2005 zx4 st. I am having trouble changing the fuel filter, i have changed many before but this one beats all. I know the filter is located underneath the car right in front of the tank but the problem is that there is a black cover that incases the filter and something else thats mounted under the filter. The black case has three bolts that mount it to the car , which i have removed but i can't get the connecters off of whatever it is mounted in the cover with the filter. Any suggestions........

Its real easy. I don't have any pics but heres a quick walkthrough.

-Jack up the rear passenger side of the car and support on a jack stand.
-Disconnect negative battery cable.
-Fuel filter is located around 1 foot in from the passenger side and around 2 feet in front of the rear wheel.
-Disconnect the clamp from the chassis that holds it up.
-Disconnect the two clips attached to the lines going to and from the filter. (gas will spill but there is no way around this really. Just have lots of rags handy and don't get it in your face)
-Take filter out and disconnect from its holder.
-Put new filter in the holder and installation is the reverse. Just make sure the filter is turned the right way so it flows correctly.

Some people like to pull the fuel pump fuse and run the car till it stalls to de-pressurize the fuel system and minimize leakage. Tried it by doing this and have done it without and it made no difference in my case so I don't even do that anymore.

that should help...

thats how it usually works but my problem is the black plastic cover and the thing in the black plastic cover with the filter, it has to be disconnected for the black cover to be removed. I can't even see the filter and won't be able to until i get the black cover.
