Anyone ever considered it? 220hp Yamaha motor. I have searched online and haven't found any reference to it.

I haven't heard much about the SHO motor but, a nice V6 swap would be either the SVT or Regular DURATEC from a Contour. www.shoshop.com has a lot of perf parts that are for the SVT but work well on the DURATEC too. The trannies mount up too.

The SHO engine is pretty heavy if I'm correct. And it's big. I wonder how hard it would be to swap it. You can try putting the 3.8 from the regular Taurus in. They had oodles of torque.

The SHO was only a 3.0L. He isn't talking about the late model V8. Another route is with the 3.0L DURATEC motor from shoshop. It is a 3.0 conversion. Awesome motor. Also check out www.zx3tuning.com
The SHO was also a 3.2 V6. The V8 was a 3.4 but the V6 3.0 and 3.2 were both pretty big and heavy.

I would say that the SVT contour engine would be a better option, my dad and I were considering this a little while back but the engines weight would keep it from handling really well.

Nice! I was waiting for someone to bring this up! [8D] That Yamaha engine (the 3.0L in the std. or 3.2L in the auto) is kickass! Anything that was designed for drag-boat racing has to be good!

If you want more info on the swap, there's a gentlemen in Ontario who dropped one into his Mercury Topaz. He goes by the screen-name Olympic at www.tempotopaz.com

You should be able to find him and his adventures on the message board.

Holy Mother! A Topaz?
I've never heard of the SHO engine being swapped into a Focus. It might be doable but other engines have been swapped.

i used to have a 93 sho, the motor was verry big, not much room in the engine bay, they are very potent motors, the 3.2 were in the automatic sho's like mine, and the 3.0 were in the 5 speed, if you wanted to make it really fast get a 3.2 block and 3.0 heads and inatke and it will have alot of power, and good tourqe...

a buddy once told me that he used to do that with old little ford fiestas. im sure thats a smaller engine bay than the focus. but probably need to cut that firewall back.

With the Fiesta, the engine was put in the back. A la Shogun.

I have the reg 3.0 and everytime I go buy a part for it they ask if its the SHO 3.0. So I would have to think the sho is a 3.0. And yes the v6 had lots of go but mine has 240,000km and has seen better days engine wise. It has nothing left, barely makes it to 120kph.

I had a V6 SHO. No way that engine will fit in a Focus. No way. That is also one of the most high dollar maintenance engines Ford ever made. That engine has mechanical cams that require adjustment along with a waterpump replacement, about a $600 maintenance bill every 60K. The new 3.0 V6 is a much better way to go. Also consider any SHO engine V6 or V8 that you will find will probley need a rebuild.

we had this discussion on the escort racing message board.. the 3.0 has a lot of hp.. but alas, is quite heavy... if u got the $$$'s to do custom everything.. you could if you wanted to.. but there's other wayz around it.. like using the oodels of $$$ for a turbo project, or the svt motor (of which i know nothing about... noob here..), and idk how similar the zx3 is to the zx2's... but the gtx (1.8 turbo from jap 323's) might fit.. pending a re-wire of the car.. ur options are prolly limitless either way..

just my $.02

and i was also gonna add on the 3.8.. it sucks.. bottom line.. its got like not even 200 hp.. and most blow up near 100k miles.. not to mention horrible transmissions.. which also go right around 100k miles.. it was kind of funny seeing somebody mention this here :-D

No not really. But yes it has headgasket problems which I've heard can be cured and it has 145 hp 215 ft. lbs. of torque. Couple of guys have supercharged it. The transmission will break down but with the addition of a 24k GVW trans cooler and a shift kit should do much better than stock. ALL Tauruses had/have transmission problems. Lube and heat issues killed many of them very quickly. The focus already has a cooler which maybe why it does okay on it's own (FORD finally learned). All the Tauruses INCLUDING the SHO had transmission problems. And if I'm correct the SVT 2.5 Duratec motor had headgasket problems also. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. I guess the 2.5 Duratec would be your best choice especially since a few people have already done it.

I will be blunt everytime someone knows a guy whose (fill in engine/tranny here) has blown up or wore out They propagate a bad name for that product.

Look at the firestone tire debacle, now folks call the cars exploders, all because firestone made bad tires, make sense?

I am a mechanic I see problems on every car every day. Fact is some cars have more problems then most.
