Hi, I have a mk1 focus with an awful shake under load, a sideways feeling movement, rubbery feeling, not metallic vibration.
So far I have changed;
Engine mounts, wishbones, gearbox, and clutch.
None of this has cured it! its definately not an engine issue, it pulls strong, not throwing any codes, it just shakes when booting it, worst in 2nd after around 4000rpm, but noticeable in any gear. It also seems to be intermitant, like some days worse than others, also, with 2 people in car it does it less. I am going to get drivshaft fitted tommorow, the long one with carrier bearing. RAC had a look and said it had some up and down movement, he thought it was possibly to much, but local garage said it was fine! I know some one will say wheel balancing or something, but its not that, clutch down stops car shaking immediately. Nice low mileage gearbox fitted today, and new 3pc clutch kit. Other than driveshaft, I am at a complete loss!
Any ideas will be hugely appriciated.
Thanks in advance!

People here don't think a whole lot. Any wheel bearing that would shake would have such incredible looseness you would have known it was bad a month ago before any shaking.

You can't shake until you have extreme looseness that shows on a bearing long before unless you are so dull a wheel has to fall off before you know.

Go ahead and change them, it will be for nothing. Calling it out now.

A bearing is dead at 5 thousandths+ wear, the front ends come with many parts looser than that brand new off the showroom floor.

Think on that, telling you what it is. BTDT.
