AUGUST RIDE OF THE MONTH(2004)

Member name: GREYSTEALTH
Location: Texas
Model: ZX3
Color: Liquid Grey

Why he loves his Focus:
"I use to have an f-150 truck back when foci first came out I'd see them everywhere. It was like love at first sight. I wasn't much of a trucker, I wanted to be lower to the ground and be unique from all other cars. I had to have one. I love the way my car rides. Best suspension in it's class in my opinion, plus the mods i've done to it. I also love the way it's built rock solid on the inside. I have no annoying squeeks and rattles, and panels comming off, unlike most other cars over time. I wouldn't change my car for the world."

His future plans:
"Include me paying the 7000$ I still owe on it, and hopefully when I'm done with that, turn it into a complete show car. Repaint it completely and install air ride. But until then I plan on redoing the front end here in the next few months, maybe an SVT or RS front bumper with a nice lip on it, and get some euro grills and headlights as well. Then i want to actaully start adding things to the engine compartment to make it a bit faster. Honestly though, I think this car will be an endless modification. I always see things to add or take off."

Member name: S2
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Model: ZX3 (S2 Edition)
Color: Liquid Grey

Why he loves his Focus:
"Alot of reasons, it's a fun car to drive. I always loved the car but especially after I got the Wings West kit and Eibach drop done. The car has an awesome stance. For a 4 cylinder, it's got alot of pickup and that only gets better as the performance mods keep rolling in. Haven't had any problems with the car, definitely the best car I've owned. Plus it being a limited edition model that makes it more unique."

His future plans:
"None as I have sold my car not to long ago and stepped up into a 2006 Volvo S40. Seriously miss the focus but it was time to move on and will be missed always."

NOVEMBER RIDE OF THE MONTH(2004)

Member name: ZX3TUNR
Location: Canada
Model: ZX3
Color: Liquid Grey

Why he loves his Focus:
"I origionally hated the focus to be quite honest. I was your typical/ignorant high school honda/import kid. Finally it came the time to buy a car and I no one would give me a loan excpet for Ford so I had no choice but to go with a 2002 Focus SE. After about having the car for a few months I started learn more about the car and got into the modding scene. Sadly the SE got totaled. I then had a chance to start over. I had my options open. I now have good credit status and a way better job. I chose to stick with the Focus but went to a ZX3 witch I will never regret. From day one I loved this car. The options for this car are mind blowing and even to the point there is so much to do to it, its hard to know where to start. I also love the fact its so different. Focis8nt and my self go out to the drag strips, car shows and the people that ask about the car. "What kind of car is that?", "Never seen anything like that." "Thats one hell of a car you got". LOL I love it. Specially when you see the old guys staring at it and scratching his head. LOL
The Focus really grew on me. I seriously get into arguments as soon as I here some body start trashing the Focus."

His future plans:
"Right now I am working on my custom dash peices and re painting everything to CD silver. Also working on my custom hatch install for the stereo.
I also have a plan for doing some type of boost, racing seats, and one day scissor doors. Its hard to say. Im always changing my mind about doing things. Or the thing that I usually end up doing is buying a bunch of stuff then putting it on the car and then changing my mind.
My goal is to make one sick focus. This project is going to keep going. Once the boost is done I plan on getting a 2nd zetec and building it up. From there let the fun begin.
Once day I will have my scissor doors too.
What else is there to do? I well soon be maxing out on the stock internals then what? Build up the engine and crank up the boost ;) Buy another focus? We will have to see[;)]"

DECEMBER RIDE OF THE MONTH(2004)

Member name: SCARECROW
Location: Goshen, Indiana
Model: ZX3
Color: CD Silver

Why he loves his Focus:
"As a Sales Manager at a Ford Dealership there are many cars I could drive, but I drive the Focus because it is fun to drive and fun to modify. I like to drive cars that you won't see on every corner. That is why my first Focus was Mandarin Copper and a Sedan. You just didn't see a lot out there in that color and few people were tricking out sedans. I also chose the spider decal for the same reason. I had never seen it on anything before and liked it."

His future plans:

FEBRUARY RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member name: ZX3_CHICK/LIL_REDZX3
Location: Moorefield, West Virginia
Model: ZX3
Color: Infra-red

Why she loves her Focus:
"I never liked the Focus when it first came out. Everytime I would see one I would go "ewww" or "that's one ugly car". When I lost my previous car in a fire, I needed to replace it with something cheap. At first I wanted a Honda Civic. Then I started looking at Ford Focus's. I went to a dealership in the area and test drove one; I was in love! I couldn't wait to get one. I got my baby on March 13, 2003 and have been loving it ever since day one. The modding bug hit me about 10 days after I drove it in my driveway. Hasn't stopped since.
I love how this car has made me so many new friends and I love going to G2G's!
Big thanks to a former member on here for all his hard work and Ray @ McNews Automotive for tuning 'Lil' Red'."

MARCH RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member Name: W~PHOENIX~{RC}
Location: Mount Vernon, Iowa
Model: SE (Sedan ATX w/Zetec)
Color: CD Silver

Why He Loves His Focus:
"I enjoy my Focus for numerous reasons. I really like how the car looks. It's definintely something different to see out on the road, especially a modified Foci. I really like the fact that I've done every modification on my vehicle to date myself and that's something that I'm proud of. Before I bought my Focus in October of 2003 I never really had any interest in modifying vehicles, but now I'm a proud owner and Focus enthusiast. I've learned very much about how vehicles work and how I can manipulate things to get better performance and what-not. It's been an excellent experience so far and I plan to keep at it."

His Future Plans:
"I have a very big list of future modifications that I'd like to do. I'm going to look into getting many more performance parts. I think I'll add a Quaife Differential, [Upgrade Transmission, Valve Body, and Torque Converter via Lentech Automatics or McNews Automotive]. I'd like to get a turbo sometime in the future, so when I'm picking out my performance parts, I need to be careful because I'd need them to be compatible with a turbo setup. I'd like to have the SVT Brake Swap and some sort of custom Moon Roof. I will be working on a custom subwoofer enclosure, upgrade the interior lighting, get a few more dress up components for the engine bay and interior, as well as a few more exterior cosmetic upgrades."

APRIL RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member name: FORDESIGNER
Location: Midwest
Model: ZX3
Color: Malibu Blue

Why he loves his Focus:
"The Focus was picked out by my daughters. I was going to get a GT convertable. But getting the Focus and not paying high insurance or payments has meant I can have much more fun. I have learned a lot about the Focus's suspension and engine and have grown quite fond of them. Needless to say, this Focus has become one of the favorite cars I have ever owned.
I have owned a 1968 Olds Cutless with a 455 cid, dual quad Offy intake manifold with dual 630 Holleys.... And I would choose the Focus over it any day of the week. I also feel it's a much more complete vehicle next to the Mustang. This coming from a designer that has worked on the last two generations of Mustangs. SN95 and S197, including Cobras."

His future plans:

MAY RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member name: GOAT ROPER
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Model: ZTS (Centennial Edition)
Color: Pitch Black

Why he loves his Focus:
"I have always been a fan of taking four-door cars and making them into they really weren't intended to be, fast. Goes all the back to my first car, a 1977 Dodge Monaco (the "duct-tape mobile") where I did nothing but put a glass pack on it I had sniped from my fathers pick-up to what I have now, my 2003 ZTS that has almost every bolt-on you can find.
So why exactly do I love my Focus? The "Centennial Edition" being all black combined with the dark tint really make the car stand out I believe. Handling is superb, even more so than stock with the Eibachs and 18" Enkei's. The power I am getting out of my little normally aspirated 2.0L Zetec is outstanding, mainly thanks to Karl @ Massive Speed System, J.T. @ Extreme Parts and of course Randy @ Focus Sport for his superb tunes on my SCT."

His future plans:
"I think FordDesigner said it best last month when he won ROTM, "transmission work, lots of it". Later on this month the stock clutch will be voted off the island with either the Centerforce or Spec clutch. While I have that tore apart a lightweight flywheel might as well be put in as well. A Torsen or Quaife along with the 4.06 gears may make an appearance yet this summer. The remainder of my engine mounts that need to be replaced will occur before July, replaced by the VF's.

Long term, I have to decide which fork in the road I want to take since I am running out of things to do, build up on mean N/A engine or go PowerWorks. In all reality I want to hit the magical 100 HP per liter while staying N/A, if for nothing else than my own selfish need to do it[:)]"

NOVEMBER RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member name:MASSIVE
Location: Gilbert, Arizona
Model: ST
Color: CD Silver

Why he loves his Focus:
"I love my Focus for many reasons. The first one I can think of is how great the handling & looks are. When I first saw a Focus in 1999, I wasn't really into the headlights and everything. But they've definitely grown on me over the years. This is now my 3rd Focus, having owned a 2001 ZTS & a 2002 ZX3. These cars are so fun to drive, and the second reason for loving it is all the people and all the research here on these forums. All these neat ways people use and share to make their Focus personalized is one of the coolest things about owning one.
I'd like to thank Walter Marcy for all the work he put into my car over last weekend as well, installing the cams, fixing my cruise control, the Cosworth noise fix, and helping me with the seats(which were a PITA but turned out awesome)."

His future plans:
"I'll be installing a Street Appearance rear bumper to finish off the exterior mods (for now ). As far as performance wise, I plan on building a 2.3 short block, forged low compression pistons & rings, and doing a turbo."

DECEMBER RIDE OF THE MONTH(2005)

Member name: THEFRUSH
Location: Aptos, California
Model: SVT (3 door, European Appearance Package)
Color: Pitch Black

Why he loves his Focus:
"Well that's a tough question. Let's take a little walk back. The first car I ever test drove, before I even had my license, when I was just on my permit, was a 2002 CD Silver SVT Focus with a Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler. I really liked the sound of it, and at the time, that was the extent of my car liking. 'It sounds cool, it looks cool.' I was your typical 15 year-old ricer. I ended up driving well over 50 cars before finally buying my SVT Focus over two years later. Too many names jumped out at me to pass it up, and the pressure from my parents to pick a car meant my time before they made the choice for me was dwindling. 'SVT, Recaro, Ford Racing.' How could I pass this up? I went down to the Ford dealer and test drove the car with my Dad. Just as I remembered, balanced suspension, lack of torque, nice sound. The next day I bought it.

When I bought the car I had zero plans to modify it. I wanted to change the stereo a little bit, but my Dad wouldn't allow it. So for the first few months I lived with my bone stock car. But anyone who spends as much time as I did reading up on focusfanatics.com about all the wonderful products there are will have a tought time keeping their car bone stock. Before I knew it I had a short-throw. Then suspension. Then an intake. And look how far we've come from my days of 'Oh I'm just gonna keep it stock.'

I suppose I haven't even begun to answer the question. Why do I love my Focus? I love knowing I have never seen another Black European Package SVT Focus on the road. Ever. How many SRT owners can say they've never seen their car in the same color? I love the feeling I get every time I yank the wheel into a corner. I love the feeling I get every time I press the pedal to the floor. I love the feeling I get cruising along the expressway at 50mph knowing that this car is mine. I love the fact that I have gained priceless knowledge that I will have forever, because of this car. But most of all, what I would miss the most if I had to see what I never got, had I not bought this car, I love the fact that I have met some of the coolest people in the world, and built some of my strongest friendships, because of this car."

His future plans:
"Some time next month I'll be installing a Clutchmasters Stage 3, so I can finally enjoy this new boost. Then, in the Spring, the car will be going to Focussport for a smaller pulley install and dyno tune. I also plan to completely revamp the cooling system in the car. And hopefully by late Spring, she will be hitting open track days with the Focus Challenge. I try not to plan more than 6 months ahead, because we've seen how good I am at sticking to my plans.[;)]"

JANUARY RIDE OF THE MONTH(2006)

Member name: TIN_MADDOG
Location: Spencerville, Ohio
Model: LX (sedan w/SPI)
Color: Pitch Black

Why he loves his Focus[:
"I'm not sure, really. I bought it when money was tight and I just needed a reliable/cheap car. After about a year, I started to modify it. My Focus went through alot of stages and I changed my mind MANY different times (my wife can corroborate this!!), but all in all, it's just a fun car. After getting married and buying a house, finances got settled, new cars were bought, but I couldn't bring myself to ditch the old SPI Focus. Sentimental, I guess. Anything I know about cars, I learned by working on my Focus (with MUCH help from Marc/Gigaherz and Jim/Waterboy, as well as various others on FJ) It's addicitive and fun to drive. As my signature says, "I'd rather drive the slow car I built than the fast car I bought."

His future plans:
"NEW REAR BRAKES! I hope to do the SVT rear conversion soon.

I'd like to build up the internals, add nitrous (w/ a retune, obviously), and eventually, build a different turbo kit.

I've got a few new body parts to add, but they are not priority."

FEBRUARY RIDE OF THE MONTH(2006)

Member name: DUDLEY123
Location: New Mexico
Model: SVT (3 door)
Color: Infra-red

Why he loves his Focus:
"I love my focus, because first off, it is somewhat rare that you even see a modified ford focus on the street. I like to break the stereotype of having a ford focus, and that it is more than an econo-box. I like to think it has a combination of mods to satisfy the Show scene, and the Domestic Crowd if you will. I gone through tough times with this car, and it has always pulled through and ran great. After you hit a certain point in modding you cannot just simply call it a focus, its more of your own creation. I love my car and cannot wait to finish it off!!!"

MARCH RIDE OF THE MONTH(2006)

Member name: DRAGON
Location: San Jacinto, California
Model: ZTS (sedan w/2.3)
Color: Infra-red

Why he loves his Focus:
"Well I usually get a new vehicle every 3 years. My lease was up on my Sport-Trac and this time around I decided to go with a small car and purchase it this time. I needed a 4 door and liked the equipment on the ZTS. I've been in the Auto Business 25 years and cars don't usually excite me. I jumped in this one and it really surprised me. Nice little pep and great handling. I decided to tint the windows and was able to swap my stock wheels for some SHM wheels. I found this site and another and after finding out what you could do to the Focus I got hooked on modding it. This is actually the first car I've ever modded and damn it's become addicting !!! I don't believe I will get rid of this one after 3 years."

His future plans:
"I have the HID angel eye headlights, 02 Euro grill, and a Lentech valve body to go in the next week. I plan on painting the hood and spoiler this month. APRIL RIDE OF THE MONTH(2006)

Member name: V6FOCUS
Location: Ridgeley, West Virginia
Model: ZX5
Color: CD Silver

Why he loves his Focus:
2 Reasons:

"It's a common family interest. The car was bought new for my wife new in 02. It took several years of subtle changes and the eventual begining of autocrossing that really opened everything up. She picked out the bumper and the hood and choose the color of the flames. It's really nice to have a wife that show interest in my hobby(did I mention she keeps a copy of her dyno in her pocketbook), I can now say that "MY" hobby has turned into "OUR" hobby. I like knowing when we are working on a car, she's there asking questions and learning. Really has brought us closer together.

It's Fast and It Still Hauls the Kids. I love seeing people reaction after they have driven or ridden in it, seems like it leaves a smile on your face hours after you drive it. Then when it's time to preform as the family car, there is no fear of driviblity issues, most of the time you can't even tell the blower is there. Whether it's autocrossing or driving to grandma's house, the ZX5 is there, it really is a complete car. To quote a good friend "It's amazing what a little car can do."

His future plans:
"Drive, Drive, Drive......We spent all winter putting it together, now it's time to run. Road racing, autoXing, and just taking drives.....now it's time to enjoy it. We have several events on tap for the year so it will definately be raced. Only real upgrade to the car will be a suspension kit."
