Hi,

When driving my Focus today, the check engine light came on and the engine started revving loudly whenever the gear would shift (automatic). I later discovered that I cannot reverse the car at all (pressing the gas while in reverse does nothing).

The fault codes I get when I plug in my OBDII adapter are P087A and P287A, but I can't seem to find anything online to help me troubleshoot these issues.

Has anyone else had this issue and know how to resolve it? I've already had the numerous issues with the notorious transmissions found in Focus's, and I'm somewhat hoping it's related so it will be covered under warranty.

Have you checked out the info, in MkIII Problems section yet?

Sounding like a TCM issue at a guess, but that's all it is (just because shift issues seem to be that most often).

P087A is Clutch Position Sensor B Circuit fault.
P287A is Clutch B Stuck Engaged

Swap the shift motors and see if the codes change.

^^^ Mis-typed - the CLUTCH motors are accessible from the outside as two separate units.

Better guess than mine, with a good lookup of the codes!

my focus did the same thing went to dealer need to replace forks in trans they are frozen so gears will not engage and that is costing me $ 2700 dollars to take out trans and replace parts.

Most US market MK3 Focus automatic transmissions are covered under some kind of extended warranty due to lawsuits, etc.The shift forks and clutch are controlled by TCM(transmission control module), wich is a extended warranty item in most cases. DO a google search, not all dealers are honest, :sneaky:

Easiest way to fix permanently is to dump the car, the trans issues on these are well known and you are in a group of thousands. Ford itself cannot fix the trans to not do the same thing again in the future.
