Focus Engine swap. 2.0L SPI to Escort SEFI 1.9L
I know some people are going to say I am nuts, but I have more time than money and horsepower is not a big deal.
I found a great deal on a 2003 Ford Focus SPI 5speed with a dropped valve seat for $350
I bought a 92 escort for $200. Took the parts I needed and scrapped out the rest of the car for $175
Things that needed to be modified on the 1.9L block.
Waterpump from the spi. one bolt hole needs to be drilled and tapped.
Support bearing for right hand drive axle. There is one boss on the 1.9L block that can be drilled. The other two are mounted with a piece of plate steel from the factory 4 bolt engine mount bolt bosses.
Passenger side engine mount needs to be custom fabricated. There are three 10mm threaded holes in the factory 1.9L head. I used those and strengthened it up with a brace to the accessory bracket.
I decided to use the 1.9L intake manifold. The TPS and IAC connectors need to be swapped out.
The SPI fuel injectors are shorter than the 1.9L. I used the SPI fuel injectors because the wiring plug wouldnt have to be modified and the fuel ratio should be kept the same. I had to redrill the fuel rail .4375 inches from the factory hole for the shorter injectors.
The fuel pressure sensor on the SPI fuel rail. I modified this to work with the return side of the 1.9L stock rail.
I swapped the oil pans, but I dont think that I would of had too.
The stock SPI thermostat housing bolts right to the 1.9L head
I know I am a cheap skate but have a nice running, ultra reliable car for less than $500.
If anybody needs info or pics let me know
