Tom sent me a "first draft" of the SVT tune hes building for the Xcal folks out there.

Now being a rough draft I was expecting a rough tune that needed lots of massaging to get in line. Well I was wrong.

This is a bold thing to say... but on Toms first wack at it, he made a tune that was more potent down low, better idle, and more stable over all than any tune I have ever had. In my sig you can see the tune I have been running before. While the tune I have from the competition is good, VERY good, and VERY smooth and free reving all the way to WOT, Toms is a different beast.

The "other" tune I have still has a slightly rough idle, and needs to get some revs for the power to take shape in the midrange, and when it does its heavenly.

Tom's is quite potent a bit lower and into the mid range, its a very very driveable tune and doesnt mind being flogged. It is going to be nice keeping both on hand though, because both are fun in their own way. But for those who havent gotten a very good tune from anyone else... this is where you need to go!

On the first run of this tune, there was no sign of surging (only the 2nd tune I have gotten ever that hasnt surged at some point!!), knocking, deto, pinging, bogging, etc..

Its pretty clear that tom is not new to this, and this is a very refined tune even on the first draft. I sent him a nice big 8M CSV of a drive so he can see if theres any optimization he can still do on the tune, but really its damn near perfect as it is.

My mod list below in my sig is current. I normally dont give free advertisement like this... or come off as a fanboi, but I do feel that when peoeple do good work they deserve to be mentioned as such.

I am pondering a Dyno run sometime later this week or early next week with 3 tunes. a tune I had before that was garbage, a good solid tune from someone else, and the new Tom tune. I would be interested to see the AFR and the curve differences between them.

How much is Tom going to charge for his tune?

Will the tune be available for Xcal 1s?

When will it be available to the unwashed masses?

I want to update the thread a bit. I ran the tune for 2 or 3 days to get a full feel for it in my daily commute. I have to say its a more violent tune than the more smooth tune I had on the car. I switched back tot he smooth one to see if I was imagining things. And the popping is much reduced in the other tune. I also noticed at a stop light a few times I could smell a rather heavy odor of unburnt fuel (I have an ORP so that stuff just sorta comes right out). So it could use a lil tweak I think, but still seems to have more punch and go than any other tune I have owned!

Note that the smooth one is not a Tom tune, it was one of the rare good tunes from another tuner... I had to search my email to last year to find it .. it was the only good one I ever got from the other tuner that didnt have surging or misfire issues.

I was shocked when I DLed Toms performance tune a week before the turbo (I went back to stock with the RLA6 tune and it was AWEFUL - almost undriveable). I had a tune from the same guy but mine surged so so so bad through neighborhoods @25mph. Toms tune was utter perfection. Hearing good results doesnt suprise me a bit...
