it was all about changing the water pump in my brother's Ford Focus 1.6 dohc zetec SE. i didn't loosen up the timing belt as there is no need to do so to change the water pump but i did took out the main pulley that holds the accessory belt.

i noticed that there is no marking on the crank pulley but finding the TDC for the crank pulley is not a problem. i also noticed that there is no marking and pin locks for campulleys.

when after everything is already been assembled, tried cranking the engine but it seems like there is no compression, like a snapped timing belt.

before i replaced the water pump, i did fitted back in the 18mm crank pulley screw with a hand & later i did tried to set the crankshaft at TDC by turning the 18mm crank pulley screw with a wrench. it seems that only the crankshaft turned but the timing belt remain static. i guess that this was what makes the camshafts & crankshaft doesn't aligned.

how do i find back the correct TDC point for both of the cams as there is no marking whatsoever?

thanking you guys in advance.....

Far out, Ford is requiring more and more general engine knowledge to assemble a vehicle. If that were mine, I think I'd have to whip out the engraving tool and make marks somehow. I have no idea how at the moment, but I'd certainly look into it.

My wife worked in Kuala Lumpur for a couple of years. Welcome to FF!!

whynotthinkwhynot,

i agree about what u said. but i myself too don't have any idea on making the marks on the cams & crank. anyway, i just made my own 5mm steel plate for the cams positionings & made one 7mm diameter & 70mm long pin lock for the crankshaft TDC pin lock.

am going to continue with the work today. hopefully everything will go out well with my brother's engine. i got some infos on 1.6 zetec se engine is not a non-interference engine, did cranked the engine b4 thinking that the timing belt is at the correct position & possibilities of bent the valves....

since your wife worked in Kuala Lumpur before, i guess u too were here for a few years. a 1.6 focus has no future here as parts of the engine is no where to be found except to buy them from singapore for a high price. my brother made a wrong decision by buying the 1.6 from singapore a few years back thinking that the 1.6 & 1.8 focus engine parts are interchangeable. focus here is the 1.8 & 2.0 versions.

thanks whynotthinkwhynot.
