On my 00 Focus, in test mode, I get somewhere about 18V charging and 15V before startup. At the battery, I have 12.5V and then at idle it is about 14.6V.
Any clues as to why the difference?
Not seing any issues, but I just wanted to know the condition of the alternator since I just had to replace the one in my 02 about 6 months ago.

And the readings at the battery are good (the best place to get real numbers)...

12.63 is the number for a fully charged std. lead acid battery with NO drain on it (disconnected), and 14.6 is good for system voltage at the battery when it's charged up..

So your numbers are where they should be...

Yes - you are fine. I get the same numbers with the original cluster.

A replacement gave numbers that were closer to the actual battery numbers measured. Something to do with the way the cluster was set up at the factory or a faulty part monitoring that parameter -idk. Don't worry about it just make a note of the values and keep that in mind when you enter the test mode (don't really feeling like taking it in to spend time/money on that issue).

As mentioned above - best place to measure the battery is at the battery.
