Hey all, about to pull the trigger and order some tires online for the first time. Not sure what I should expect to be paying for a mount+balance and whatever else needs to be done for that. Any ideas? Thanks.

The price has a range. Some franchise shops like Firestone advertise $14 per.
Then some other shops are as high as $32 per wheel (for low profile and sticky weights)
The sort of machine a shop has for balancing (some say) matters.
If you have alloy wheels you really do not want edge clip-on weights. (which is what you will get at most lower price places. And if you ask for the sticky type weights, they may charge more.

Then the quality of the work.
I suggest checking Tire Rack for installers in your area. They have a list. And IMO some are good, some not so good (IE I would never go back)

i think local shop is key here.

go to a small independant tire shop. they'll be cheaper than larger chains.
maybe they'll take cash under the table.

Should be. I am keeping the tires I have on currently so there shouldn't be a fee for that. Stems are likely the only thing extra that might be extra but I doubt it. My dad's friend goes to the place all the time with tires from Tire Rack and said it's normally around $50 for everything.

Get Stems at least every other time you replace tires, cheap insurance.

Every time if it's many years between replacement tires...

Bought the car in April brand new. Stems should be fine I would think, only 5500 miles on my car. This is actually the first time I've ever bought tires myself... Well, outside of the cheap Walmart tires on my first car Haha.

You're fine not replacing them this time, thread started talking generalities so I threw that in for future reference & anyone else reading it.

I've seen people never replace them, and slow leaks are a PITA but a fast flat is even worse if one gives up.
