Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help here....I am technically dyslexic when it comes to Cars, only know how to drive it...My radio has suddenly stopped working, it is a factory fitted Radio/Cassette Player..very naff...already had problems in that the cassette player wouldn't play cassettes or then eject it. But now the radio has also stopped working, I am thinking it is to do with hte speakers because the radio still displays all the channels etc, just no sound coming out. I honestly haven't a clue when it comes to cars so I was wondering if anyone had any help and could point me in the right direction as to what to do and provide very simplified instructions. I live in the UK, if that makes any difference about where to get parts etc..... Thanks

it sortof sounds like the internal amp went bad on ur radio. If you take it to a specialists, they are gonna tell you to just buy an aftermarket HU. and thats what im gonna suggest. you can get some of them pretty cheap if ur on a tight budget. or you can look on ebay and find a used radio. but it would prolly cost just as much.

Yeah sounds as though the radio has gone tits up, not sure where Thorton Cleveleys is but if you're close to Bury St. Edmunds, Newmarket, or Norwich they all have a store called ICE STATION, I believe was the name, they always had good deals on new and used car audio equipment depending on how much dosh you want to throw out. I got my S40 done at the one in Norwich when I lived in the UK they are a great bunch of peeps

I would agree, at this point, you would be better off replacing it with an aftermarket head unit. Go to your local stereo shop and look around, see what features you want, and what you don't want after that, buy one, and if you aren't savy at installs, pay the shop to install it for you. Its usually not too much 50-75 U.S. dollars. You will need to save a few dollars 20 pounds or so, for your wiring harness and install kit as well, to adapt the aftermarket radio to the Ford parts. Just as cheap as getting yours fixxed, and you will have a better Head unit when you are finished.

One note here: You don't need to buy the best, far from it. But, don't buy the cheapest either, the bargain head units are usually junk.
