So after looking at some Catback exhausts I found some that I really like, but they're made to fit 00-04 zx3/zx5 models. After a bit of looking around, is it true that the exhaust routing is the same, but about 6 inches or so shorter for the zx3's/5's? Would I be able to purchase an extra foot of exhaust pipe and weld that issue away?

I'd just get a system for your car. Yea you could use a zx3/zx5 system & mod the length.

fswerks lists the sedan's exhaust as fitting from 00-11. Assuming the flex pipe is in the same location for all of those years, just the manifold/header designed changed but left the flex at the same point. The routing under the car after that would be the same then.
