Can you pop the hood and tell where the rattle is coming from? Sometimes a long screwdriver up to your ear can help poking around at different areas. I had a rattle like that and it was actually coming from my passenger side motor mount, but it could come from alot of different things (ac compressor, tensioner pulley, exhaust heat shield, etc).

check the timing chain cover. it is known to rattle. theres only 2 bolts, and it rattles against the engine. very common on ur year and up.

I've been chasing this same noise for a few months now and here's where I'm at. I replaced the accessory belt tensioner after I saw a lot of movement in the belt and tensioner whenever the a/c or fans came on. The tensioner was pretty cruddy after 100k plus miles and it helped some. I had a fairly new Gatorback belt on it but I put the old original belt back on that I still had and the noise stopped. I convinced the local parts store to replace the Gatorback and the new one seemed good for a few days then the noise was back. I now have the original Ford belt back on and the noise is gone. It might be coincidence but about a month before this started I replaced the timing belt, pulley, tensioner and water pump. I haven't rechecked all the bolts on the covers but maybe something is loose there. I'll post after I check everything.
