Okay i was driving home and out of the blue my check engine light came on. went to autozone to see if they could read the code with a OBDII. They said that the GREAT STATE OF CALIFORNIA (A$$HOLES) does not let any autopart store rent out a code reader anymore because to many people were just earsing the code and not fixing the problem (BULLSH!T)

So here is my problem, i now have a check engine light on and I am flat out broke and need to find out what the code is. I know that some cars can self diagnose and flash the code, do have any options or do I disconnect the battery and hope all is well.

BTW I have a 2001 SPI with Five speed maneul.

They should still be able to read and tell you the code! what have you done differnet latelty? if nothing make sure your fuel cap is on.

try another autozone or just go to the dealer and ask for them to read the code and NO MORE

from the last time i filled up the stearship will well steal my money that i dont have and all autozone are the same

As long as the check eng light is not flashing you should be ok to drive on it for a little while.
I can bring my Xcal2 next week if you want me too and we'll get the code

I'd say no, 'cause the light is simply an indicator that there's a problem, and if you turn it off it might not come back on by the time we meet and then we won't know what the code was for.
So I'd say just leave it on until then.

will do the only thing i can think of is the O2 censor would go that fast

it might but, if it is a constant problem the light will come back on no matter what. if the car recognizes a problem it will bring up a CEL. i would recommend reset cause it could just be a CEL misstake but thats IMO

check your coolant, mine came on once cause the cap was loose, iono. Maybe the gas cap is loose, that happened to me once also before.
