ok my 2000 focus has had a knock for quite awhile, today i finally got around looking at it, i have the car up on the lift and i found out that the knock is coming from where the trans housing bolts up to the block, right in between the block and trans the noise is the loudest, you move into the first cylinder area of the block and its not as loud, you move more farther onto the tranny and it quiets down, im wondering if maybe my flexplate is cracked or its a main bearing knock??? are either of these a common problem on focuses? by the way there are no performace problems with the car at all just the knock, any help is appreciated

OOH another test is while the car is running unplug the spark plug wire that is closest to the knock that will cut off the spark to that cylinder and should make the knock quieter if it's a main, if not it could still be a main but that's at least one test to try...

Another note, you might get shocked, but it's not too bad, I did with the screamin demon coil and it didn't hurt to bad, just have someone handy to turn the car off... HA HA
