I need a replacement motor for a 00 Focus with the SPI engine and just want to drop the same thing in, not interested in a zetec, svt, etc. Question is has anyone tried a motor from Canada in their US spec Focus.

I know its the same basic engine, but was concerned about any wiring or Ecu conflicts. Wasn't sure but I thought their might be differences due to emissions, etc?
Just wondering because it looks like the Canadian engines are a few hundred less than US versions?

Thanks

Wow... few hundred ?? Plzz share, because i thought it is way cheaper to get it in the states. Ohhh you have an escort, that could be the reason why. It's an SPI in the end, but still...

Should be the same and i don't think, there is anything different in terms of emissions.

Not sure, if the motors in US are standard or metric, but I'm almost certain they are metric in Canada. I had a chevrolet motor that was standard, and the same year gm was metric. And even if it doesn't look like there's anything different from standard/metric, there is a BIG difference. Good luck, oh btw. The Canadian motor should work.

I don't know if it the exchange rate that makes it cheaper to buy a canadian motor or what, but it there is a difference. And I'm buying it for a 00 Focus...not the escort...

I take back what i said... SPIs are expensive now a days and are way more than Zetecs. This cause due to a problem with an exhaust valve seat dropping resulting in damage to the heads. There is a shortage right now, i think.

Ohh maybe they are just expensive because the prices can be jacked up pretty high due to demand.
