could someone clear this up for me. as i am confused, mainly about exhaust. i have a mbrp cat-back(no header). also i will be be adding stage 1 cams in a couple of months and a tune. i know that my intake has got to go and so does the tune, but will adding a second cat clear up the problem with the exhaust or does that have to come off too? i know there has to be someone out here in ca with cat back, lol.

Your catback is fine as long as it is behind your second cat, which is below you ebrake. You will just need to remove the CAI and put the tune back to stock and it should pass just fine. Even if you have the second cat removed and possibly kept your CIA on, you could pass too. Those two will depend on the smog shop.

From my understanding there are two parts to the test; the visual inspection and the diagnostics inspection. You may be able to fool the visual, but the diagnostics are yet to be seen. I live in Cali and have a 2003 PZEV 2.3 with the K&N and a SECOND cat back exhaust. I would love to get the Trubends 2.5 with the high flow cat, but I remain hesitant due to my first inspection coming soon. I will definitely know more after that date, which will determine my future mods. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

the mbrp eliminated my second cat. that's what i'm worried about... i didn't know if cutting out the resonator and welding in a high flow cat would pass?

you will probably pass without the second cat, but just don't draw any attention to it

I'm not sure either, so I'm going to save my stock cat JIC.
Although I hear that Magnaflow makes a high flow cat for Cali emissions, but I don't know the details.

i just had mine smogged...with a cai,down pipe back exhaust with hidden tip.and cams&cam gear, i passed fine...

why do you have 2 cats? i had one cat one resonator. now just cat and straght pipeing

My 03 PZEV 2.3 has a manicat and a second cat after the flexpipe.

okay. lol. my thought was they might notice the shiny chrome exhaust and louder than stock sound and look for the second cat.
