Is there a secret to getting the rear drums off a 01 focus? I took off all the axle bolt, there were four of them, and the washer and smaced it with a hammer, pryed on it pulled on it u name it i tried it. can anyone help me out???[?|]
Just to make sure all the bases are covered...the 4 bolts were the lugs right? After that, pop off the dust cap and you have to take off the hub nut...if it's been taken off before, you probably want to replace it, because the threads are laminated so it doesn't back off, and after you've taken it off a couple times, the laminate wears off. Also, make sure you don't have the parking brake on, cause otherwise the shoes are pressed against the drum, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, ot remove. Try putting some WD-40 around where the stub axle comes through the hub, that might help some also, just make sure if it gets inside the drum to clean it out when you get it removed. Using a propane torch to heat near where the stub axle comes through the drum might help also. If that all fails, it's all brute force and a lotta cursing...you might need to replace your wheel bearings when you're done.
damn man you make it sound like it's really dangerous to take them off. As long as you're cafeul you can resuse the hub nuts at least a couple times. Once those nuts are off, and the parking breaks off, the drum should come right off. If it doesn't come off with a few good hits from a mallet than something's probably wrong.
I didn't mean to make it sound dangerous, cause it's not. Just making sure he didn't have the parking brake on, and that I thought Ford recommended a new nut every 4 times it's been off--I said if it's been taken off a couple times before, he *might* want to replace it. At any rate, didn't mean to sound like there's impending doom, just making sure everything's been covered. Sorry bout that.
