Hi my 53 reg focus tdi 1.8 estate seems to make a loudish droning noise when in 4th/5th gear, anyone got any ideas? thought it was wheek bearings but kwik fit checked them out said all ok.

also has anyone got an anotated engine diagram for this model as there are a few things id like to check out!

Is this a NEW noise, or something that's always been there...

One overlooked noise source is the tires. Specific tread patterns, especially as they get worn, can get VERY noisy. AND from personal experience, ONE poor tire can sound like a bad wheel bearing. I chased that issue for a while, repeatedly looking things over for issues, B4 a tire rotation made the noise go away! (it wasn't appreciably noticeable with the offending tire on the rear..).

Once all wheel bearings & the half shaft bearing have been checked, at least you know there isn't likely to be an impending MAJOR failure to worry about....

For diagnostics, note if there is a particular speed involved where it's noisiest - and if it changes when turning vs. travel in a straight line...
