Nothing has changed or happened to my 2003 ZX3, but now when I open the driver's side door it makes a pop or loud click noise at one specific spot, roughly halfway open.

It doesn't click when I close the door, only as I open it. I tried greasing the hinges but that didn't help.

I have seen this kind of thing on other cars, so I don't think it is specific to a Focus, but I can't quite identify what is causing the noise and I certainly don't know how to eliminate it.

Thanks in advance.

Uh, look close and what else moves in there besides hinges?

The retention strap, which rotates in/out...........

Thank you. I had greased the strap too, but it seemed to take a couple of days of use for the grease to work its way in there and stop the popping noise. Thanks.

Spray grease shot up where it disappears into door itself gets there faster. BTDT.
