When i went to look at STs, the ST1 they showed me the 'key' was smaller and had no extra 'real' key hidden inside.

The ST3 they then showed me the key they used was larger and had the 'real' key hidden inside.
So do they come with one with a hidden key in it? or both have the hidden key?
(and only the ST1 has the cheap type with no hidden key?


I LIKED the smaller ST1 fob without the key. Just I do not know what the deal is on who gets what keys?

Maybe I would order a spare small fob or two (with no key in it) if it does not come with the ST3 i have on order [giddy] (just got my DORA, so i am sure they will build my 2014 even though it is pretty late in the model year)

The fob should be the same for both cars as every single ST should have the intelligent access system. Both of my keys have the little metal skeleton key inside to open the door.

The ST1 I rented in Utah had the exact same keyfob as my ST2.

I asked because I liked the cute little one. It was about 1/2 the mass of the larger one like you have pictured. It had the buttons on it, but no key inside.

The standard one like you pictured is nice. But i also want a small one.
I guess I will have to wait to find out. But as I mentioned, I will plan on buying one or two of the small ones just to have them (if one does not come with the new car.

Maybe you could identify the key from this chart, but the Focus ST is only going to come with #14 from the factory which comes with the space for the metal key.

#11 is the 5 button key for a Titanium with the remote start system.

It won't come with a key that doesn't have room for the metal back up key from Ford.

Well the little fob is not shown in your chart. Since the dealer had the little fob in his hand and I used it, looked at it intensely, even commenting how cute it is.. It definitely had no hidden key in it.
This was on a new St1 on the dealers lot. So it had to be built in the last two months.

Then the ST3 i tried the next day had the larger fob with the hidden key in it. So the two are different.
That little fob was not some mistake. it was the fob that came with the car.
So it must be something new? (at least for the ST1)

This discussion is worthless without a picture of the alleged Fob, since nothing of the sort is known to exist in any of the parts catalogs that I've seen.

Every single ST keyfob that I've ever seen has matched the one I posted so far.

No offense meant, but it sounds like a game a dealer would play on an unsuspecting customer to have a different key/ fob that's not even meant for the car in question reprogramed to work just to make it seem like the cheaper car gets something different than the more expensive version. I have a picture of a 2014 Focus ST1 key fob and it matches exactly with my 2013 ST2 key fob in size and configuration. I've held both in my hands at the same exact time and they were the same exact item. Nothing in any of the parts catalogs list a smaller fob without the remote or internal key. There are blank keys for the N/A that are just the chip and a key, but nothing like this has been found in my research for the Intelligent access system.

I am curious to see what this smaller fob looks like, but those are not the original keys to the car as every Focus comes with a metal key for getting into the door even if they only have the touch sensors for normal entry.

OK, I got more info from the dealer just by chance... and he says the 'alleged' fob WAS an aftermarket one. AND it only opens the doors, it will not start the car. (if he remembered right..as the car was long gone when we spoke about it again.)

So this whole notion of Ford making some cute little baby fob was all a mistake.

Not a guy fob for sure. But i would like one if it could start the car etc. and not just open the door.
