Destroyed my ST170 bumper ---Updated with pictures---

So as some of you may know, I had a major mishap the other night after picking my girlfriend up from work since the roads were so bad. We got hammered on Tuesday night by that huge winter storm that pounded the midwest and northeast...at any rate, I was headed north on a north-south state route, traveling through a somewhat well-to-do town. I came to an intersection with traffic signals that's right at the crest of a small hill, once you hit the top of the hill you're at the intersection and the hill goes down from there. I'm doing about 15 MPH in a 35 zone (like I said, the roads were bad) and I crest the hill and start down and I notice that a westbound snowplow had gone straight across the intersection without raising its plow, leaving a solid 2-3' tall snowbank across the intersection. There was literally nothing I could do...the road was too covered in snow to hit the brakes and I couldn't change lanes since some [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] in a Saab had to pass me and it was too late to hook right onto the intersecting road. So I plowed directly into the snowbank.

I pulled over at the next available parking lot about two miles down the road and checked the damage; my lower grille was gone, the section of the bumper that ran across below the grille was likewise missing, and it had cracked on both sides...total loss. Surprisingly, my foglights were untouched (they're made of glass so I was expecting them to be shattered) and the lip was still attached. I went back to try and recover my lower grille, but by the time I got there the plows had gone by again ([rolleyes]) and it was long gone. So now I have to order a new front bumper cover and lower grille from European-Parts for about $415 shipped.

Realistically it wasn't as bad as it could've been...my radiator didn't crack open, the $100/pair fogs and $50 lip survived the incident, and the best part is I can get the bumper cover painted by my girlfriend's dad (he buys and restores salvage title cars for sale, so he has a paint booth and spray guns, etc.) for just the cost of the auto paint.

-Edit-

Pictures (at last):

So the bumper basically did what it was designed to do in an impact; crumpled and dispersed the damage and destroyed itself in the process. Amazingly I was able to limp home without any further pieces falling off.

That sucks man, sorry to hear about your bumper. Like you said, it could have been way worse. I feel your pain. I have to order a new one too. I'm dreading seeing the cost for a new one plus paint. At least you have a hook up there. I'm glad your getting it fixed. Mine will be like it is for a year. Time to convince the wife about a body kit!

if something like that happned, i wouldnt of moved my car at all, i would of just left it there and called the cops. It was necesarlly and accident cause you sustained a good amount of damage, and you probably could of got the county or whatever to pay for the damages cause they screwed up. But, im sure you thought about that. Good luck, the ST170 bumper is nice.

I thought about it, but given the circumstances I probably would've been rear ended by the next person to come over the hill, and I wouldn't have been surprised if the police would've cited me for obstructing traffic or something along those lines. Sitting there and waiting DEFINITELY wasn't an option, even though the city's city hall, police department and fire department were on the other side of the intersection.

I'm looking into taking the city to small claims court...so far they've ignored every call or e-mail I've made, saying that the person I need to speak to is "not available" and "if you give us your information we'll have them get back to you." I'm going to have a friend of mine call them and pretend that he's me because he's really good at being an [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)], I figure I'll have him threaten to take the city to court and see if that gets a reaction out of them.

It actually looks kinda mean without that middle piece. [;)]

What's with the door in the second picture? Please say that's a reflection and not rust...

That's the sand/grit that they put down on the road along with the salt...although I don't think it was doing anything that night.
