Hello,

There is a check engine icon seen in the dashboard of a ford focus 2013 trend hatchback. a jumper battery is needed to start the engine. does the discharged and possible dead battery can cause the check engine to appear? Please note that the said car is also having a dysfunctional aircon (not cooling).

with electronics in cars today weak or dead battery could make light come on and a/c not work
I'd also take a look at your charging system. If the alternator isn't putting out enough power to charge your battery, it likely isn't putting out enough power to keep the car's systems running correctly. This can also put a lot of strain on them.

If your charging system is working fine, then I don't know. The only other cars I've owned were an '88 and '95...so I didn't have to worry about the computers doing weird things.
