I was wondering if anyone has done it... just cut the wires under the seat. I don thave any options in the harness other then the seat belt reminder. And was wondering if I just remove it, will the circuit stay open and ding all the time... if so can I just attach the wires to complete the circuit and fool it?

And read your manual. It tells you how to disable it.

ya good idea... but thats not why Im doing it... I have the intrerior gutted and insulating the floors with foam... so by taking away the harness I can run one clean piece up.... one less thing to cut around. And if I do end up putting in my 4 point harness, it wont matter anyways.

But thanks for taking the time to share an important safety tip with me and everyone else. [thumbd]

Well I would READ my manual if I wanted to "disable" it, but if you READ my post, I want to remove the wires where it meets the other bulk of wires running under the carpet.

Can someone answer me without a smarta** answer... my car is tore apart with no battery or else I would just try it and see what happens. Ive tore them out of other cars without issues, just want to make sure its the same with this car.

If that information was provided in the first post, then you would have gotten more accurate answers. We were trying to save you from unnessecary work since we had to guess why you wanted to cut those wires.

IIRC, its just a pair of wires that get closed when you buckle your seatbelt. So, in theory, by connecting the two, should trick the computer into thinking that its buckled. Before you go cutting, I would disconnect it from the seat, and jump the wires in the harness to test.

(and I would think twice about using a race harness on the street)

^^correct, if one were to just splice the wires together, im sure the seatbelt minder would be happy. that is if the harness only has 2 wires. if not, there is something else weird that ties into the ecu.

if the OP would have disclosed the fact the his/her car was torn apart with no interior/battery the above comments wouldnt have been needed.

i disconnected both passenger and driver side harnesses for the seats. My airbag light is on in the dash now. I imagine that cutting them further would be no different than how mine are right now. the beeping from the seatbelt can be disabled via the instructions in the owner's manual.

Saving me work? You didnt have to guess anything, I was asking a question, that if I cut them would the circuit remain open, like you said and the other guy it would, therefore the next step would be to connect them like you said.

I didnt say that I hate wearing my seat belt and therefore want to remove the wires... and I would have unplugged in and heard it beeping, but my car is tore apart. Which I didnt mention in the first post... I realize, but didnt think it would be relevant. I didnt think peoeple would waste time telling me to wear my seat belt... well guess what, I removed the air bags and air bag module as well... guess I should put those back for safety as well huh? Mind you having them blown on me before, Id much rather not. Agreed in certain circumstances they would help if not save my life... but they go off a lot more then they need to.

Anyways... I will wait till later to get rid of them, I went ahead and insulated around them and cut an access hole.

there are air bag simulators for the air bag system that solve that light issue. and re activate the system. as for the minder i'd jsut cut the hole anyhow. honestly who is gonna look under the seats... even if itsa show car with race buckets 9like my buddies jetta) we have the belt minders hooked up. to the harnesses, lol.

I am using harnesses in my car. I just went throught the owners manual and deactivated the reminders. The reminder in the gauge cluster stays on for about 1 min. but then shuts off and the airbag light doesn't come on.

Dude... read a little before posting. I never EVER said I dont wear my seatbelt... I was annoyed that people were commenting on me wearing one when that wasnt the case at all. I have swapped seats in the last 2 cars I had, and just cut the wires becasuse the replacement seats did not come with any form of harness to even try and tap into if I wanted to go to the hassel.

I dont know about where all you guys are at, but here its 3 points gone and like a 150$ ticket with no seatbelt, I know plenty of people who have gotten it, I dont enjoy wearing it, but for that reason of points etc, I ALWAYS do and nag people in my car too.

So everyone CHILL OUT, I WEAR A DAMN BELT 100% of the time.. so Ya';; can sleep soundly. lol.

I just wanted to get rid of them... they arent needed... weight reduction lol. Jsut cleaning up the floor, and with that gone I can run insulation from front to back in one piece rather then cutting a hole for it... it wasnt this bog of a deal... lol.

First of all. thank you for not telling me to wear my belt... lol. See, I remved the air bag module all together from under the centre console, I figured that wouldnt give me an air bag light anymore. In my escort, I have the bags d/c but the module is still in, and my air bag light gives me a 2-3 blink code. Probably meaning something along the lines of "Not Present" lol. Those blew from its second kill of a deer. I have one sitting in the pass side for show, but not plugged in. Im not going through another windshield when it goes off again, the deer didnt even hit the window, just nudged the front corner, almost missed it doing 130km. Then I couldnt see anything from all the white smoke... SWEET. So no more bags... and yes I know they could save me but every accident is avoidable. Even my 2 deers... driving to fast, not paying enough attension... I know this. lol.

someone said they removed the wire harness from the belt and the airbag light came on.. if you connected the two wires in addition to removing the harness the airbag light would not come on

also everyone is saying you can turn it off, well there is one thing you cannot turn off and that is the damn beep when you first start the car, IMO that is the most annoying sound my car makes, i wanna tell my car "I KNOW to put my belt on when i sit down you dont have to remind me EVERY time I sit down" lol, so thank you to the OP for this idea, I just might do it to get rid of that damn sound every time i turn the key or want to have the stereo on

It is very simple to turn this reminder beep off. Put your seatbelt on BEFORE putting the key in the ignition to the "on" position. Wallah. No more annoying 5 beeps.
