Unless you've done one recently, I'd say yes to the flush. You can experiment with stuff to get the crystals out as long as it's plastic-friendly and rinses out.
I ended up replacing two that developed cracks on the engine side. Have a look at yours, and if it's looking sketchy, it might be worth replacing now.
