Didn't know whether this is an interior or exterior mod....but it's under the hood....... so interior?

Anyhoo.

Am planning to spray my valve cover with Harley Davidson black crinkle paint.

I am assuming I need to clean it down thoroughly and lightly sand. Is that all I need to do? Or is there something additional I need to do because the valve cover is plastic?

I've done 2 covers so far & they turned out sweet.

use a adhesion promotor primer and dulpi color engine enamels avalible at any auto parts store but here are the steps i follow.

1. Clean very well with a dgreaser cleaner and rinse that cleaner off very well.
2. prime with 2-3 thin coats and let dry 20-30 min
3. paint with dulpi color engine enamel let dry 20-30
4. clear with dulpi color engine enamel let dry 20-30
5. let it dry over night at least if not longer to set up and install.

if you install after over night just be careful cause the paint will be soft still.

good luck bro!

Clean it with de-natured alcohol. It will take off any residue and oil and any grit involved. Just make sure its seriously clean with that. Rough it up with some 400 grit sandpaper, clean it again, rough it up with a scotchbrite pad, clean it again, apply adhesion promotor, and paint it.
