Hi I'm a fairley new member, have owned my 2007 ford focus zetect for about 6 months now and everything has been running fine till a few months ago.

I seem to always get a loud single clicking sound coming from my engine whenever im in first gear and reach about 2000 revs, just before i change into second.

I also hear creaking sounds from the engine when pressing the clutch down to change gears.

Can anyone give us a clue to what the problem could be.

if your getting the creaking sound from the brakes also check right underneath by your firewall may just need lube, also check the brake lines and make sure you have brake fluid. (clutch and brake fluid are the same i believe even for zetec) someone can help me out on this one but im tryin to help best i can.

I do believe it's a problem with the master cylinder, but until it starts leaking- I wouldn't worry about it. When the master cylinder leaks, it will leak hydraulic fluid on the floor below the pedals. This should be cleaned up and repaired as soon as it starts leaking. It could creak, and never cause a problem other than the noise. If you want to grease the pivot of the brake and clutch pedal, use white Lithium spray grease- it will last much longer than WD-40.

Basically, it's hard to diagnose a problem, especially a creak or a rattle, until it causes an issue with the engine or body. I have some problems with my 05 that I'm waiting to cause something I can diagnose. Even if someone has had the "same" sound, you're still taking a chance that their problem was exactly the same as yours.

The clicking sound is likely to be the lower engine mount. See if you can make the same sound while driving at a creep in first, then hitting the accel hard. If that's right, you should hear the same sound. Lower motor mount replacement is an easy job- if that is the problem.

thanks for your reply guys

The sound im hearing is coming from the engine bay so i don't see why i should grease up the brake or clutch.

I only hear the clicking sound when the car is first turned on and it reaches about 2200 revs, after that even if the car is idling and i step on it it doesn't click unless i turn the car off and start it again.
